    I don't think they will ask about specific battles from the war of 1812, although questions regarding the war itself, and its causes/effects could certainly show up.

    Is the War of 1812 important in US History? It is. But as what Linger said, know the cause/effect of the war and general information about it. For example, who was the president at the time? Other important figures? Why was it fought? How did the war change US economically and politically?......
    The specific battles probably not as important or worth of memorizing if you are short on time.
