From Australia but studying in an American high school? Am I an international?

I'm currently in year 11 in Australia, however I'm thinking of doing a one year USA exchange next year which will be during grade 12. This means I won't obtain my ATAR or high school grad certificate because I'll be in America and doing the SATs and such. Since my goal is ultimately to study in an American college will this benefit me? And will I still be able to apply to Australian colleges?
