GUEST STUDENT OF THE WEEK: ski_racer, a high-achiever in high school, was rejected by some of the elite schools she applied to. This rejection was the best thing that happened to her as she got to choose her own path. Learn how she fell in love with her safety school, ASK HER ANYTHING!

Are the chances of an international student being admitted off the waitlist lower because of THE COLLEGE fearing about visas etc.. rather than the other way around? Even if the student would attend no matter what as long as they are allowed on a plane to the us? Are they flat out going to fill the spots of internationals who don’t commit because of covid-19 with domestic students from the waitlist to avoid the same thing and do yield protection?

I’m talking this year and because of covid-19 ofc.

Do any of you feel like the waitlist decisions can possibly be out by the end of this week?

Purely speculative, but I think it's plausible! From what I've gathered from previous CC posts, Stanford has notified accepted students around this time of year. (Past notification dates: 2023–May 9th, 2022–May 10th, 2021–May 11th, 2020–May 6th).

Also, it seems that waitlist acceptance roughly coincides with that of transfer students, which has been speculated to start this week. I'm still a little skeptical of those who have posted they've been accepted, mostly due to lack of evidence/elaboration. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if accepted students were notified (in some sort of first wave) by, say, this Thursday.

How many people did Stanford admit this year? Do they release that? I know last year 2032 applicants where offered admission. Also do you guys estimate yields will be low for Stanford this year?

I could be mistaken, but I believe that information is only made public when Stanford publishes their common data set. For reference, it seems that last year they released their 2019-2020 CDS in December 2019.

Personally, I'd estimate yields being low this year (which seems to be the general consensus). Hopefully, this results in considerable waitlist movement! However, besides what appears to be unconventionally high waitlist acceptance rates/early movement from peer institutions, there is no real data to solidify any speculation.

One final (albeit completely unreliable) source to consider is the size of the Stanford Facebook group. As of today, there are 1324 members (out of the desired freshmen class size of 1700). While clearly not all enrolled students will join, I guess the fact that the group is not over 1700 provides some consolation. (Though for reference, the FB group for 2023 has 1335 members, 2022 has 1445, 2021 has 1521–interpret this as you wish).

With that being said, best of luck to everyone!

There are 2 different stanford 2024 facebook groups. One with 1300 members and one with 800. Obviously there's probably another of overlap between the two but...

The one with 800 doesn't seem to be run by the school. I'm guessing that's more for students only.

Has anyone gotten any emails from Stanford about a second waitlist submission? My other schools have been doing them fairly regularly.

I accepted a spot on the waitlist and my first choice major was also Human Biology. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not that so many people on here were also bio majors. I hope everyone the best!

YoungBoy: Can you elaborate on your comment and source regarding "Stanford lacking in premeds?"

@losername I think they just assumed that because there's so many human biology majors on the waitlist, Stanford probably oftentimes has a significant lack in premeds.
