ADVICE FROM A SYRACUSE SENIOR - Ask me anything!

Hi guys! So I've been seeing a lot of posts around different websites from kids asking if they should pick Syracuse. I remember being a high school senior, desperately searching for anything that would help me make my decision, and after it was made, help validate that it was the right one. I ultimately ended up making my decision through interaction with actual, current students at the schools I considered. So I wanted to offer that to all of you!

I'm a rising senior, originally from California, majoring in Maxwell (I have close friends in all of SU's colleges, so I have first hand info to answer a variety of academic questions!) and I'm involved in Greek Life, as well as a variety of clubs, including the Syracuse Hackathon and our WERW Radio Station.

I'm going to make a youtube video that answers some popular questions and goes into further detail about my experience throughout the past 3 years, but I know a lot of you are making your decision today, so I'm happy to answer any questions any of you have now!

Syracuse is currently one of my top schools right now and I'm applying next year! What are my chances?
    4.3 GPA
    29 ACT
    15 AP Classes
    AP Scholar with Honors
EC: Student Council Officer, Volunteer EMT, Two lifeguarding jobs, 100+ Volunteer Hours, I'm involved in 5 Clubs
Also, how is the party scene at Syracuse?

@orangeterrier Do you know anyone who was accepted off the waitlist? And if so, what do you think my chances of getting off the waitlist for Newhouse are? My stats are:
    1450 SAT
    4.4 GPA (about 3.96 unweighted)
    Youth Salute
    Leo's Club Officer
NHS, Student Council, Pep Squad, Zero Conflict(anti-bullying), several other clubs
    Bishop's Youth Award

I should mention that I applied Early Decision 2 and was deferred, and there have been some people with lower scores accepted over me during Regular Decision

How is financial aid? Where if anywhere do people go off-campus?

In a split double can you move both beds to one "side" and have the other "side" as a sitting/hangout area? My son will be a freshman in the fall and feels the split double doesn't really allow for much interaction with your roommate. Just wondering if students get creative with room design as it does seem to be bigger than an open double. Thanks!

@ Impatient mom Hi I'm not the original poster but my daughter was in a split double in Sadler and there wasn't room to move both beds to one side unless they were basically touching. My daughter didn't love her room assignment originally but realized very quickly how perfect it is - they can still be social but they don't have to look at their roommate 24/7. Everyone eventually wants some privacy or their own space so it really is the best of both worlds. Although there isn't one large space in the middle of the room my daughter and her roommate still spent a lot of time together socializing in their room, had friends over, etc. The semi-private set up is also beneficial when one of them is staying up later, or getting up earlier. I think all dorms should be designed like this!

Roommate question- how important is it to find a roommate? My daughter has been connecting with other incoming freshman on Facebook but hasn't found anyone she wants as a roommate. She's very relaxed about it. Any idea how many kids go into freshman year without a roommate? Not sure if I should be encouraging her to put more effort in. Thanks for your advice!
