Bioengineering Opportunities in Japan

I was wondering if anyone knew how big a thing bioengineering is in Japan, or at least biochemistry (my interests fall under BioE but are more bio than E)? I'm thinking of pursuing a certificate in Japanese, in which case my school advises studying abroad in a country that speaks the language I want a certificate in, provided that there would be a way for me to actually do work for my major. If I do pursue a Japanese certificate, I'd need to be able to have decent opportunity to continue my studies, but I'm not sure where to start looking. If no one is sure how to answer my question, does anyone have any tips as to how I could begin researching this? I'm kind of at a loss right now. Thanks!
