Hah, as an alumnus this seems awfully early to make a thread but more power to you! I have no doubt that soon this will be full of questions ranging from "Is my essay long enough?" to "Does Amy really read this thread?"

Ah, yes it does seem a little bit early for a RSI 2012 thread. But anyways, can some rickoids give me some chances? :O

Thanks. And good luck to all those applying :D

ChrxswxN: There is no way to chance you without knowing all other applicants from your state. Anyway, it is a crap shot for anyone. Historically, FL has only one RSIer each year. Good luck.

hey guys i had a question, would RSI like to see multiple test scores from multiple types of tests? or would it be sufficient enough to send just PSAT scores in?

Although it requires only PSAT, most applicants sent more. By that time, you should have your SAT/ACT taken anyway. Good luck.

does anybody know when the applications forms for 2012 will be up? if they're just going to be the same as 2011, does anyone have PDFs of the 2011 that they can link me so I can see the general idea of them.

    I agree with Palaoa.
does anyone have PDFs of the 2011 that they can link me so I can see the general idea of them.

I don't think CEE wants to share the 2011 forms with future applicants, or the PDFs would be on their website.
    how selective is this program?

I believe it's ~3% admit rate most years, though this year was somewhat higher.
also, for alumni, did you guys have a good experience at rsi?

I think any Rickoid would tell you that RSI was the most amazing six weeks they ever had.

Do you self-report AP scores or do you have to send them an official report? Would a bad AP score destroy my chances?

Self report. No, but it usually doesn't help.

I'm looking at one of the old applications. When it asks for a subfield, does it want a specific question to be researched, or a general subfield? (such as "Does the use of parallel processing increase speed equally for all programs?" vs. "Parallel Processing" as a subfield of Computer Science.

also does anyone know when the official 2012 application for RSI will be posted?

    This is true.
I'm looking at one of the old applications. When it asks for a subfield, does it want a specific question to be researched, or a general subfield? (such as "Does the use of parallel processing increase speed equally for all programs?" vs. "Parallel Processing" as a subfield of Computer Science.

They're looking for a more general subfield. One of the essay questions asks you to talk about the problem you find most interesting in the fields you listed (though, note that there is absolutely no guarantee [and probably little chance at all] that you will end up researching the exact problem you talked about. Or for that matter, that you'll be in the specific subfield. It'll be close, but not necessarily the same [I signed up for number theory, ended up with combinatorics])

@Application Deadline: Last year it was supposed to be January 14th (received by, not postmarked by) but it was pushed back about a... week? Something like that? (Due to extreme wintery conditions). Unfortunately I couldn't tell you when 2012's app will be posted.

Hey guys, I am also interested in applying RSI this year :)
I heard about this fascinating program both my summers in HCSSiM and ROSS.
I'm from Canada, and RSI accepts 30 from international countries. So, is there a quoting system? As I look at previous threads, I see that max 2 people get in per state in US. Since Canada and US are somewhat interrelated, can I assume that RSI will pick about 3~4 people from Canada alone?

How does the ethnicity weigh in the application? I was born in South Korea, and I hold permanent resident in Canada; well, would that make me an applicant from South Korea or Canada?

When Canadians apply to, Ivy League schools, all the applications are overlooked by a person who ONLY handles Canadian applications. Is that same for RSI? Compared to the US, Canada does NOT partake on most of the competitions/fairs that RSI would find prestigious. I want someone who is familiar with Canadian schools' education curriculum, math/science competitions, and other possible EC's to look over my application. For example, I was Canadian representative for the APMO (Asian-Pacific), and division two in CMO.

As I mentioned, due to lack of opportunities, I have no research, and no AP's/IB. On the other hand, I am fluent with Java, 800 SAT lvl 2 (grade 9) and numerous competition awards (all math). What should I work on in order to stand out among thousands of applicants? Should I express my passion and desire to enrich myself with mathematical research in RSI through my essays? Is that too original? Maybe describe the scarcity of learning opportunities here and explain why I should be part of RSI community? Please give me suggestions and ideas.

I am hoping some alumni to answer my questions, if they were internationals also, then better. :D

    Thanks for reading this.

The application process for internationals is different than for US citizens. Each participating country chooses their delegates through their own process (and from what I can tell, it varies quite a bit by country).

Now... to my knowledge, Canada does not send anyone to RSI. I suppose that may be different year by year, but...
South Korea... might. I'm not entirely certain. I'm also not sure whether they consider where you live or where you have citizenship to be the country you'd apply through.

The page I linked you to does give you someone to contact so you can get more exact/correct answers.
