summer program recommendations

hi. most of the interesting summer programs i've looked at all require at least 2 teacher recommendations. i'm a very shy, quiet person in classes. i don't feel comfortable asking teachers I bare know to write recommendations when i barely talk in there classes. i'm a very good writer and i can handle writing essays. i also have a pretty good transcript. are there slightly prestigious programs, i can do this summer? I'm very interested in history and english? does anyone know of any history related volunteer/research programs? thanks.
