Summer journalism programs?

Any suggestions for a rising junior for this upcoming summer? I know it is late in the game, but he was planning to study journalism at his local community college and they cancelled the program due to lack of funds.

Try for an internship at a local newspaper. I know that many writers at our local paper would love a gofer.

You can also check with your state Newspaper association and broadcast associations ... should be easy to find on line. Each state has a non-profit organization for both. They might have an idea on internships. Most places will also allow a job shadow for a day or three - without credit, etc.
