My S got his Financial Aid summary today. Looks pretty good. He's gonna have a tough decision to make. Good luck AJ.

    edited March 2014
Megan, I applied as an EE major for Fall 2014 but was admitted instead as AOI in Pre-EE. My two main concerns are:
    1) does this affect my eligiblity for financial aid? (i.e. is this considered a degree-granting program?) When I click on the 2014-2015 financial aid link in my portal I see the following mssg: "You have not yet been offered a financial aid award package for this aid year. In order to be awarded any financial aid at Stony Brook, you must first be admitted into a degree-granting program at the University."

    2) Are there courses that I will be precluded from taking or other engineering related memberships or services (eg, STEM-related tutoring) that will unavailable to me in the AOI in Pre-EE program vs as an EE major?

my S has the same message in his portal. He's also in AOI status.

FebWood, in the FA tab in the portal go all the way down and you will see a highlighted link "cost and aid eligibility"

In that link, it shows "expected Family contribution" and estimated need. Nothing about scholarships. I think we're not getting any. Not a cent. I wish they would be more clear in the FA tab where it says you have not "yet" been offered.....

    So disappointing.

    1. No one has a financial package yet, they should be out on the 2nd (tomorrow).

    2. AOI means area of interest. When you get to the University you have to complete pre requisites in order to be admitted fully into the program, which they can help explain at orientation. It is fine in terms of financial aid, since you do have a declared path, you just need to take some classes first to be official.

    3. You will take these courses once you have been admitted into the program, no worries!

Thanks ParentofD96, but he didn't get that letter either.

Actually called Admissions this morning and they confirmed he gets no merit scholarship. Ouch...
