Updates on Swarthmore Class of 2023 Waitlist??

KarStarKarStar 7 replies1 threads New Member
Hi there! I know that it's still very early, but has anyone been accepted from the Swarthmore waitlist yet? I'm very anxious and trying to remain positive (Swarthmore is my first choice and I'm not at all satisfied with the institution I sent my deposit to). I've sent additional info + new grades/letter of recommendation/letter of continued interest as well as contacting my regional admissions officer. Any advice/good news/past experience? Thanks so much!

Last year some people reported hearing from the waitlist as early as May 2. Since I haven't seen any reports yet, I'm thinking they may have a fairly full class. I wouldn't expect anything until Monday at the earliest.

I'm really hoping that they decide today is the day. I just want this whole admissions journey to be over. It's like an Oscars speech that's taking too long and the music is playing and they're dragging the actor off the stage and he's still thanking people. Just thank Mom and move on.

For a college that's been bombarding me with emails to go complete radio silence for the past two months, well, it makes me feel very unloved. At least tell us when you're going to tell us.

Well, yesterday wasn't the day. Swarthmore is on their way to being dead to me. Just a hint that they hadn't forgotten about the waitlist or whether they intend to take anyone at all would go a long way right now.

    Anybody got off the waitlist?

There's an anonymous post on reddit where someone claims they're on an accepted students' group page and 3 new members joined last week, all international. Another reply on that same post claims that they got an email saying that they were basically full but they wanted to know if Swat was still a first choice.

If my son got that email he hasn't let me know. So indications are that he's not getting off of the waitlist but it's all tea leaves and rumors and not a shred of official communication.

@ninakatarina, I also got the email saying they are basically full but wanted to know if Swat was still my first choice. I replied and said they are, but at this point I'm just trying to move on. Although I knew from the start that my chance of being accepted from the waitlist was minuscule, I'm thoroughly heartbroken.

Yeah, son got the email. He's emotionally moved on, he says. If Swarthmore says yes in the next couple of weeks and if the financial aid is there he may still jump, but he's focused in on getting the most enjoyment possible out of these last moments of high school.

If Swat (or any school) is a place that you would drop everything for....then say yes and assume no.

The likelihood of getting in at this point is really small, but things happen. My daughter's friend received a phone call in late July from an Admissions director at a school she'd written off, with an offer that expired in 24 hours. 24 hours! If you really want to go there, make sure they know that you're the person that will solve their problem if they have a spot open up between now and September.
