Also quick question...does any one know how many MT student's they are accepting this year?

In the past they have aimed for a class of about 25 - 30. I heard a rumor that this year's class will be smaller, but don't know if that's true.

If you scroll down a few threads on Syracuse MT, I posted in November after having attended a meeting for parents during Parent Weekend with the head of the MT department. She told parents of current MT and acting students that they were planning to reduce the number of students in the program for fall 2009. However, she did not provide any percentages or numbers. My D's MT class (class of 2012) is approximately 25. And, there are significantly more girls than boys in this class. (Remember this is MT and does not include the acting BFAs.)

As I mentioned in my previous thread, she said this in front of the dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts so I took this to be pretty accurate. Unfortunately, this is all I know -- that's all she said.

At the parent info session for SU's BFA Acting and MT auditions this year, it was disclosed that Tim Bond would very much like to reduce the numbers of incoming Freshman for both Acting and MT to below 20 in each class; and plans are underway to re-vamp the BFA curriculum in both disciplines to provide more conservatory-style training within the university setting.

However, it sounded as though these changes (especially including the latter curriculum change), might be phased-in over a period of a few years.

Reportedly, SU plans to expand its performing arts facilities to create more of a 'performing arts complex' which will include more classroom and performance/studio space down near Syracuse Stage, although it was unclear whether this upcoming project will be completed in time to benefit the Class of 2013.

SU's Chancellor Nancy Cantor is a real dynamo, and she's taken great strides to incorporate SU (including the College of Visual & Perf'g Arts) into the Syracuse community. All of the changes sound VERY exciting, and it seems as though SU plans to really 'kick it up a notch' when it comes to its BFA programs in Acting and Musical Theatre.

I hope these comments help. Congrats to all who have been accepted so far!

I could be wrong but, I have the feeling that most of the e-mails that were sent yesterday were rejection letters.

weluvtheatre..was that an acceptance to the school or to the MT BFA? I have a couple of friends who received acceptance emails that did not specifically indicate the college of visual and performing arts. Are they looking in the wrong place or is it all the same?

The e-mail had a link to a pdf of the acceptance letter, which was to the school of Visual and Performing Arts, Dept of Drama, Musical Theater program. Believe me, we read it several times to make sure that's really what it was!
