D, a current sophomore in Newhouse in advertising, also applied to Penn State where we visited. She did not apply to UMaryland. Newhouse has provided an outstanding education - lots of contact with professors, stimulating classes, wonderful club activities providing real world experience. But the real proof has been her success in getting an internship for the coming summer - more than half of the places she applied contacted her for either a phone or in person interview. She has landed a wonderful paid internship in NYC for 10 weeks in a top firm. Over and over again, employers focused on her Newhouse affiliation as a major positive draw. In many of the organizations, there was at least one, if not a large number, of Newhouse graduates.

I posted you below... not sure if you saw it. We had talked... my son is between Penn State and Whitman/Newhouse. My husband was nervous about the internship part (he is Syracuse grad) and the amount of work. Can you remind me if your daughter took summer courses. My son is a good student however his writing is not the best. He has so far chosen PR with Marketing. He is very concerned with the PR course and writing (multi media storytelling, group projects with writing). I think he is a better writer than he believes himself to be (I am awful.... engineering degree for me) but how did she find the writing, group projects etc. Anything you can say will help. He is really torn. I know his heart says Syracuse but his head is messing with the work.
PS They have visited Syracuse and attended the Lubin house event on Sunday for Whitman. I had to take son back to Cornell so I missed it. This is when they started having reservations. I don't know if they made it sound more intense than it is or it is but he probably is up for the challenge.
