Anyone want to talk to me about Wofford?

My daughter did a Wofford Scholars interview and took a campus tour today. She has been focused on our state schools where she will get plenty of automatic merit aid as our SAI is much higher than we would ever consider paying. She did decide to apply to Wofford and just take a shot at the scholarships because it fit other criteria she likes and her stats are good for there.

She has a 4.0 uw/34 ACT, 10 APs, 650+ service hours and the usual laundry list of activities. She is planning a chemistry major on a pre-med track.

I don’t have a specific question just asking for general thoughts and experiences I guess. Any guesses on merit aid range or opinions on campus life or experience are welcome. I know we just have to wait for money at this point to see if it is even an option.

Also, I believe a poster recently shared that Wofford has a program for placing pre-meds with shadowing opportunities. I’ll look for that.

There are several great LACs in the south. Our D25 chose Wofford College in Spartanburg SC. 56% acceptance, 86% med school acceptance rate. Strong Finance major and Biology for Pre-Professional majors (Pre-Dental,Med, Vet), Pre-Law majors also strong. Great collaborative community, small classes, involved professors, live on campus all four years. Greek life but supposedly strong but inclusive … also many other activities to be involved in on campus. D1 athletics… football games known for alumni returning for tailgating, basketball team made NCAA tournament this year and were conference champs as did volleyball. Very strong active alumni network. Spartanburg is a historic town, small but growing and being revitalized. Great restaurants and cute downtown walking distance from campus. She also was accepted and strongly considered University of Richmond, Rhodes College, Furman University, Sewanee and Samford University.

I see Wofford is on your list. They have great premed opportunities and outcomes and give good merit. Great professors, beautiful campus, and walking distance to downtown Spartanburg with outdoor beer gardens, multiple coffee shops, bagels, bookstores, art galleries, restaurants etc. Specifically with premed they have January term with shadowing. This is great because the school sets up the rotation, you don’t have to rely on your own connections or “cold-emailing” physicians. Students usually get more than 100 hours of shadowing with a variety of specialities. This is great exposure to the diversity of medicine. The airport GSP has multiple direct flights to ORD (and elsewhere). Good luck with your list building!

I don’t have anything other than the anecdote that my college friend’s daughter is a senior there. My friend, who is usually quiet on social media, recently did a long post (with tons of pictures) about how sad they were that it was her last “Family Weekend” at Wofford, how much her daughter loved it and how much they would miss it once she graduated. I’ve known others who have attended over the years and have never heard a negative comment.

This was my original post (reposted here!) Happy to answer any questions I can. Our D25 is in her 1st semester at Wofford and loving it. We just attended Parents/Family Weekend. She went in knowing absolutely no one and has found an amazing group of friends.
