Also, if it impacts anything, I play softball in the summer and am technically being recruited. I got the highest rank a recruit can get. However, I'm not sure if this affects the admissions process.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

of course being an official recruit helps, they need people to fill their recruiting classes....most every school reserves a certian number of spots for recruited athlete....dont pin ur hopes on it though, cuz many are not accepted either

Yes, the idea here is that I'll get in on my stats, and that the softball only helps. I'm more focused on the stats, tbh.

Hey!
I too am applying ed to Carleton. Our stats are comparable except for the softball part. Your grades are a little better and my boards are a little better but overall we are seemingly in the same ballpark. Did you visit Carleton? I have heard that the admissions staff takes into account whether applicants have visited. Overall I think you have a good chance and I wish you luck!

yeah81....carleton's been recruiting me for soccer, but it's a little far down my list....i think if we both end up there, we should hook up though... :P

I think you have a good chance... but admisssions can be unpredictable. What state are you from? That can sometimes impact admissions as well. But at this point all you can do is wait. I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you and jbsmith here next year!!!!

yeah81,
your stats won't get you in or keep you out - IMO it will come down to the other stuff (softball, ec's, rec's) and the boost that ED gives. My son was WL'd RD last year with better boards but with a class rank of 14%. I think he might have been in ED. All in all I think you have a pretty good shot, but you should also be ready with plan B just in case. I wish you the best of luck - you will be an asset to whatever school (hopefully, Carleton) you attend.

jbsmith2006

Yeah I did visit and had an interview. I was a little tired though, the night before I did an overnight at Macalester (staying with a softball person) and we didn't go to bed until 3 or so.

wbm777 and ohio_mom

Thank you very much!

PS ohio_mom

I have 9 plan Bs :-p Thanks for the concern. I hope your son is enjoying whereever he ended up.

PPS wbm777

I'm from Massachusetts.

zackalack87

lol if you end up at Carleton let me know

yeah81 -
glad to hear about the plans B's but hope you don't have to use them - and being from MA is probably a good thing for you. My son is at UChicago, having a great time, and he even seems to be studying, lol.

umm....except that's what everyone at chicago does....u of chic is where fun goes to die....rated the least "party-friendly" school in the u.s.....I would expect if he's at chicago, he's probably studying

Sweet it will be nice if you get in to have another eastcoaster!!! ( I am from NY and in case you are a baseball fan no I do not like the Yankees I am a hardcore Mets fan)

You know they call soda, pop here?? Also duck duck goose is called duck duck grey duck....

what?....you're crazy, we call soda soda and duck duck goose is duck duck goose....you dont know what you're talking about

Yeah...never seen the duck duck grey duck version...and I'd say soda/pop is a toss up here. (though i'm not in MN, i'm close, and both my parents are from MN)

iowagal, are you hot?

zackalack I am not sure where in the midwest you are from but there is a disproportionate amount of Minnesotans here. For all of them that I have talked to soda=pop, duck duck goose=duck duck grey duck, there were also some other things I forgot. As far as you not hering of duck duck grey duck Iowagal.... how often does that really come up in conversation when you get to a certain age?

Heh anyway did not mean to generalize but there is an ongoing war on campus over the true name of these two specific things.

Hey if y'all get into Carleton come visit me during your revisit. I really love meeting prospies. You can find me on the fourth floor of Myers.
