The big one:
I’m writing the schoola 3,000 dollar grant to organize a huge event with the students and the senior citizens of the town. We are going to organize a “prom” for the seniors and have the students interact with them for about 5 hours a month until the prom arrives to get to know the senior citizen they are paired with. We’re trying to cultivate cultural awareness (both american culture and foreign culture), create a stronger sense of community (we are kind of in a small town though new york is like 15 minutes away), provide our senior citizens with some fun, and are probably gonna make it pretty publicized, local papers, news reporters etc. Out of all the juniors, only two were “eligible” and I was chosen to lead this by my vice principal (the same woman who took my ipod like four times >_<).

Besides the benefits of being able to help out and put this on my college app, the counsler I’m working close with is going to write me a personalized reccomendation, as will my vice principal, principal, and my guidance counsler I believe.

I feel like I’m missing something, but whatever.

Anyway could you guys chance me at

University of Miami
UCLA
USC
UCSB

and toss in NYU if you have time.

Thanks guys.

U of M - Match
NYU - Match / Low Match
USC - Match
U of Miami - I don’t know.
UCLA - Slight Reach (OOS)

hyakku:

UCLA: Slight Reach (out of state)
UCSB: Safe Match (out of state)

I meant U of M as university of miami :)

Thanks guys keep the replies coming if you don’t mind.

Haha that’s funny, I read UM on title and stated that and I read U of Miami later and thought nothing of it

Lol kev

more replies please :).

As a URM with those scores, you could aim higher if you have good recs. The UCs can’t give an AA boost and they’ll end up being very expensive. what do you want in a college?

I do realize the UCs won’t give much financial aid, so I’m not adamant on going there, though I’m not saying that I don’t wanna go there.

My main colllege is university of miami, I’m pretty sure I can get in, but again nothing’s 100%.

As for getting into more “presitigous” colleges, maybe even some of the lower level ivies they don’t interest me at all. I’m looking for a school with a good psych program, and most schools top 60+ have that for undergrads, seeing as how it’s one of the most popular majors. However, I’ve been in the north east all my life, i think its time for a change of setting, and I’m also a guy who likes to be social, you know, party, meet new people, etc etc. So in this respect the ivies don’t really suit me at all, and USC and Uni of Miami, really encompass alot of the traits of the prestige yet the fun at the same time, I’d be interested in other schools that are at least mid sized or so that fit the same profile, but I don’t wanna be somewhere like South Dakota either.

Keep the replies coming please :).

Edit: And yes I should have superb recs.

Depending on your rank, you could a get a major scholarship to miami.

Thanks so cal, I’ll look into that.

Anyone have any comments on the other schools as well?

U of Miami - Safe Match w/probable scholarship
NYU - Safe Match
USC - Match
UCLA - Match to Slight Reach (OOS) (somewhere between 45% and 50% chance of acceptance)
UCSB - Safe Match (OOS)

Alright thanks.

Quick Question now:

Assuming I get accepted into UCLA/UCSB is there a possiblity for any type of aid besides alot of loans? Cuz I doubt my parents can afford to give up 40k a year for that, though they probably could I don’t want to put them through the stress.

If not, then do you guys feel it is wise to cut down to probably NYU/USC/UMiami, Umiami and USC are really high priorities for me now, I’m planning a visit soon anyway.

I’d add Stanford to the list.

As for $$, you need to figure out your EFC. If your parent’s can afford the college, you need to rely on schools that give merit rather than need based aid. Very small chance of that at a UC.

I was considering stanford, I’ll look into that thanks.
