Would a school that accepts 38% of applicants be considered highly selective? Do I have a good chance?

A college with that acceptance level is typically one notch below the very selective. In the USNews ratings for National Universities it is typically in the 35th to 40th ranking.

You might want to post more your question on the chance me forum. Best is if you identify the college.

I agree with fogcity. Need to know the school. Then you can go to c0llegeb0ard or school’s admission website and find their 50% median SAT scores and GAP and see where you are in relation to the school.

It will depend too on the typical success rate applicants from your school have with this particular institution. The sci/math magnet in my state, for example, has an almost 100% acceptance rate to our flagship university despite a much lower overall acceptance rate.

I really don’t think that acceptance percentages are all too accurate of a school’s selectivity. CUNY Hunter, for example, has a 26% admissions rate (apparently less than UChicgao) but their average SATs are in the mid 500s.

ACT puts you in about the upper 40-50% of entering freshmen. Not sure about your GPA, but Wake Forest reports that:
75% of students are top 10% in HS.
89% of students are top 25%
99% of students are top 50%.

Given your ECs and the school you attend, I would say yes, Wake Forest is a match. It’s pretty selective, but you seem to fit the profile. Good chance of getting in.
