Do privates(specifically ivys) look at academic gpa or total gpa?

my total gpa is 3.90 but my academic gpa(9-12) is 3.89 :'(

academic gpa takes out athletics. i know uc's dont count athletics in gpa, but do privates?

Most colleges (including your ivies) ignore all those A's you got in PE, health, vocational studies, driver's ed and any course that is not within one of the following: English, math, lab science, social studies and foreign language, although some, such as UCs, do consider art/music.

I've visited several colleges that say they throw out the grades from any non-academic classes and also "unweigh" all the grades before recalculating a student's gpa. Your total gpa and academic gpa are very close, so I don't think you need to worry.

I think colleges are trying to correct for the ridiculous 4.6 and up gpas they get.

Nobody cares about the difference between 3.9 and 3.89.

Selective college admissions is not a mechanical process.
