3-time National Russian Essay Contest gold medalist; silver medalist (10th grade) and gold medalist (11th grade) at international level
New England Olimpiada of Spoken Russian gold medalist and first runner-up for grand prize of trip to Russia (11th grade)

I’ve done TRACE amounts of volunteer work.

The kicker: I was suspended in 9th grade for drinking on that foreign exchange, though my crime was having a sip of someone else’s beverage, and I don’t drink on principle.

Russian Club and my study of the Russian language is huge for me, and I’ll probably write an essay about it - though I don’t want to major in Russian.

I want to be a creative writing major, and I’m also looking for strong programs in Russian and art.

I’m thinking about:
Middlebury (1st choice)
Brown
Oberlin
Grinnell
Sarah Lawrence
Yale
Beloit (safety)

…Chances?

Wow. Sorry. This is really long. I can’t imagine someone taking an honest interest in all these facts about me…

Hmm…

JVB Ultimate Frisbee co-captain –>not an NCAA sport, so this prob. won’t help that much
Harry Potter Club co-president–>shows your personality, but that’s about it…

The rest of your ECs look good. If you can bring up your SAT I Math score, your SAT I would be decent. BEING COMMENDED FOR THE PSAT IS HUGE, AS IS NATIONAL HISPANIC. PUT THAT FIRST IN YOUR EXTRACURRICULARS PORTION OF YOUR COMMON APP. You probably should’ve taken more APs also, but nothing you can do about that now.

That being said, I’d say your chances at Yale are not good, your chances at Middlebury are fair, and your chances at Oberlin and Grinnell are both quite decent.

there is a class in clothing…?

Damn, you have pretty good chances at Yale and Brown. =)

You’re a match to all the schools and with Yale it’s always a crapshot, but the fact that you have high grades and high SAT’s with the fact that you are a hispanic makes your chances really high.

“The kicker: I was suspended in 9th grade for drinking on that foreign exchange,”

lol.

I’d say you look pretty good almost anywhere, but of course a lot of places are crapshoots now

I think Ultimate Frisbee shows a lot of character. Not that you’d get recruited, but I think it helps, not many people have it.

Sarah Lawrence is an ultimate safety for you. Plan on a drug-induced atmosphere.

Thanks for all these replies! I feel really calm now.

(…bump!)

(bump bump this is embarassing)

My favorite part of your stats is your passion for the Russian culture and language. I think that you have followed that passion for most of your high school career, and that having so many achievements and awards is awesome. You also found a way to tie it into your courseload at school! It’s just too bad that there’s no SAT II or CLEP for Russian! Your SAT scores are high, your GPA is high, and your PSAT is high. You have a good shot at all of the colleges you want to apply to!

thanks very much, it’s my favorite part too
