FSU vs UCF Music dept?

A friend of mine is looking into colleges for music theory, composition, etc. They are looking at FSU and I'm playing to go to a college in Orlando. I know a big factor for FSU is the party school atmosphere but that's not a big deal for them; I'm just wondering whether UCF has a comparable music program. Anybody know?

There's a good chance this is in the wrong forum (I suggest posting in Music Majors Music Major - College Confidential ). But I shall answer anyway...

I don't know a lot about the college music scene, but after growing up playing music in central florida (and attending years of private lessons with UCF professors), I can tell you a little bit. FSU definitely has one of the stronger music programs out there, and is one of the best there is in the State of Florida. Perhaps it's just the fact I've grown up around it, but from what professors in UCF's music program say, it seems to me like UCF music is severely underfunded. That's not to say that UCF is a bad place to study music (I really have no way of knowing), but, based on people I know in the FSU program, I do think there are more opportunities afforded to FSU music majors.

Once again, I'm no expert; the best thing to do might be to have your friend talk to their music teacher, and find out what colleges will serve him best. Hope this helps!
