Is a physics 770 good enough for HYPS?

I received a 770 on Physics as a freshman last june. Although it seems like a very good score, it is only 82nd percentile, and I received a 750 on Math I in the 94th percentile. Is this physics score, for I am taking Math II, good enough for HYPS.

I’ve heard many different opinions like 750 or above, but I’m not sure about this one due to the difficulty of this test.

Should I retake? What do you guys suggest I do?

It’s good enough. They take a holistic approach in reviewing apps, and subject test scores are just one piece of the puzzle. I believe the difference between a 770 and 800 is negligible in their eyes, so no I don’t think you should retake. You should take Math level II though, and make sure your SAT I score is at least a 2250 – preferably in the 2300 range.

^agreed, well said jr5570

Yes. (to your original question)

^^^ yes to that I should retake it or that its good enough?

Of course, a 770 is good enough, especially in light of the fact you took the test freshman year. Since you’re going to be taking the Math II exam, however, you may find it worth the minimal extra time to retake the physics test, if you think your knowledge is still fresh enough to ace it. While the process IS holistic, better stats will always give you a slight edge over lessor ones.

The thing is, I took physics freshman year and am now taking chemistry, so the material isn’t really fresh in my mind. I am taking the chemistry subject test at the end of the year, so I think I might just concentrate on that.

Yes, it’s good enough. Honestly, anything 750+ on SAT subjects I would say is good enough.

Don’t retake your 770 physics subject test. Take the Math 2 subject test and the chemistry one.

Focusing on acing your SAT I or ACT. That’s the numbers the top schools look at most; the SAT IIs are just confirmation and a few points either way won’t affect your chances.

i got a 670.

I’d say 770+ is good enough for Math IIC, and 750+ for Physics/Chem/Bio.
