Is my transcript "balanced"?

<p>Hello!</p>

<p>Colleges say that they want a rigorous curriculum in humanities, social sciences, lab science, math, and foreign language.</p>

<p>When they say “rigorous”, does that imply you should avoid intro classes? At every college people have to take intros to get into their dept, and with things outside of the major, you’d need prereqs for advanced classes, so you’d be taking things like Survey of Western Music and Intro Linguistics. I could point to my senior level poli sci courses, but I can’t really take Adv. Jazz Improv or Syntax. Also, with so many expectations, it seems that outside of your major and your foreign language, you would only have space to take one class out of each area (one hum, one sci).</p>

<p>I’m at a quarter school. We take three quarters a year with three classes each quarter. I am a political science major. So far I took (with level)</p>

<p>1) hist of sci (300), intro linguistics (200), intrm. French
2) intro micro econ (200), intro poli sci (200), adv. French (300)
3) intro poli sci (200), intro poli sci (200), adv. French (300)</p>

<p>4) poli sci (400), intro macro econ (200), marine bio (200 - lab sci)
5) poli sci (400), poli sci (400), music hist (100)</p>

<p>I have one more quarter left. I was planning to do:</p>

<p>5) poli sci (grad course or at least 400), poli sci (400), stats (300)</p>

<p>Do you think it’s “balanced and rigorous” enough for a poli sci major? Should I take diff classes my Spring quarter. Calc instead of Stats although it won’t be as useful for me, maybe?</p>

<p>um… well it’s hard to say. It really depends on what school you attend and where you want to transfer to. I know at the UC’s as long as you get your pre-req’s done it really doesn’t matter if you took the “hardest” available courses - just as long as your done with your GE’s and you maintain a highest GPA. I would say maintaing a high GPA is the most important part.</p>

<p>I do put the GPA first. Esp. since at my school, we don’t have letter grades but individual GPAs for each one or two percentage points. I’m taking the hardest courses in my major, but I don’t have the prereqs to take adv. stuff outside my major (science, music, etc.). On the other hand, I think this is the same at every college, so I doubt I would be at a disadvantage if I didn’t take senior level science or music courses.</p>
