WHAT ARE MY CHANCES…Plan to major in Biochemistry or some type of science…Maryland/African American/Male…Enjoying the HS scene!!!

Wow… and you’re black too. I would say in at all but MIT, Harvard, and Stanford, where no one can make reasonable predictions. Your chances are great. The essay will make or break you for the above three. Also, your EC’s are weak, but it’s too late to change that.

“Wow… and you’re black too”. Man isnt in 2005 come on ppl!

brenner—Not sure what your issues are, but pls seek help…
As for anyone else…I am just looking for some opinions from people who actually have been through the process or currently going through the process. Thanks for nothing brenner…

I think what brenner meant was that you would gain the benefit of affirmative action, along with such an impressive resume. as far as your questions about what your chances are for schools, i am really not qualified to answer that as i am a junior as well, but I would say the weakest part of your application is your EC’s.

I know, since I haven’t been through the process i have no clue what I’m talking about. Oh wait… I was accepted EA to Georgetown… Think before you speak n00b.

Yeah, everything that brenner said was right on. In everywhere except MIT, Harvard, Stanford and possibly Brown, just b/c it’s so quirky. You have a good shot at those four, but it’s no definite. And your EC’s really are quite weak in comparison to others’…I would say that’s the only reason why adcoms might hesitate on your app. Still, your scores for an african-american are really top-notch, and that might well be enough to put you over.

The only thing missing is strong leadership positions. Still, you are an excellent candidate for the colleges in which you are interested, but there are no guarantees - there are just too many applicants! Work on your essays and consider who you’ll ask for recommendations.

Those stats are extremely impressive and I think you’ll be in everywhere except for Harvard. I was just wondering since you’re a varsity baseball athlete if you’re planning on continuing in college? That could be your ‘hook.’ Try talking to coaches at all those schools. I know you’re only a junior, but you need to narrow down your list just a little (after all do you want to spend all that money on application fees?) and don’t just apply to all Ivies and Georgetown/Stanford because no one ever knows.
*Be sure to apply early decision because most of the top schools accept more people there. If you apply early to brown or Penn I guarantee you’ll get in.

Thanks…I am not sure if I want continue B’Ball in college or if I am good enough. Right now it takes up a lot of my time, ie the reason for my few ECs. I plan to apply EA to Harvard or Stanford, RD to th rest and after discussing my list with my dad, I may drop Cornell and G’town. So many good schools hard to decide. But again thanks for all you guys suggestions…

Brown is a very popular choice for people at my school, and don’t knock it off for Harvard yet! Make sure you show them some interest because they like to waitlist overqualified people like you.
If you apply to Harvard expect a deferral. They defer EVERYONE. (I exaggerate, but it seems like it)
