Lees-McRae Audition

Just thought I should share an experience I had with the Lees-McRae performing arts program.

I’m a volleyball recruit for the Lees-McRae (LMC) volleyball team, and also want to study musical theatre. I was going to be @ LMC for a volleyball recruit weekend, so I talked to the Performing Arts Head (“Doc” Speer) and Recruit Person (Mr Parrish) and they were so gracious enough to let me audition that weekend. They set up a time for me that weekend (which was also their Homecoming, during the run of their musical, etc) to audition and had several people from the department come.

They were all so friendly and welcoming, and seem to really care about their students!

As far as the audition went, I did it on stage in their theater, and they let me do the 2 songs and 2 monologues in any order I wanted. Then “Doc” taught me a simple “pedestrian movement routine” and I did that.

Anyway - It was a great experience…Lees-McRae is a small private university in Banner Elk, NC (near Boone) up in the mountains - It is GORGEOUS. I have been there 3 times (each in a different season) and the campus is beautiful… In February there was snow, in the summer there was a nice breeze, and in the fall there were beautifully colored leaves everywhere! All of the people were so nice.
