Looking Ahead

I’m a sophomore at Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School in Merritt Island, Florida.

I just wanted some advice on a few things, but first, here are my credentials:

Me: Caucasian male, 15 years old, really interested in math & science.

School:

I go to a School of Choice (meaning you have to go through a lottery to get in)…ranked #14 in Florida and I think my County (Brevard) has the highest scores in the state.

Students:

We have a ton of really smart kids. I guess we are a small school (about 900-1000 students), but we get some of the highest scores in the state. In my grade, I’m sure I’m not the highest ranked because there is a girl I know that will have 5 AP’s under her belt by the end of 10th grade and she has never got anything but high A’s.

I’m probably in the top 10% of 180 students in my class. I’m a very fast learner-I only have to see/hear something once and I won’t forget it for a long time.

Classes:

7th Grade
-Spanish 1 B/B

8th Grade
-Spanish 2 B/C
-Algebra 1 Honors B/C

Summer
-Personal Fitness (online) A

9th Grade
-Geometry A/A
-Biology 1 Honors A/A
-World History Honors A/A
-English 1 Honors A/A
-Spanish 3 A/A
-Computer Graphics A/A
-Journalism 1 A/B

Summer
-Algebra 2 Honors A/A

10th Grade
-AP U.S. History
-AP American Government
-Precalculus Honors
-Chemistry 1 Honors
-English 2 Honors
-Law Studies
-Drawing and Painting 1

I plan to get all A’s in those classes

GPA: 3.75 weighted overall (In Florida Honors are 4.5 for an A, and AP’s are 5.0 for an A). I’m going to bring it way up (over 4.0)…I’m working harder.

Extra Curriculars:

-Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society)
-National Art Honor Society
-Journalism Club

Volunteering:

I’m going to get over 600 hours by the time I graduate.
-I’ve volunteered for the Florida Wildlife Hospital, Clearlake Middle School, and Keep Brevard Beautiful.

What I wanted to know:

Should I take Community College classes to bring up my GPA? They are weighed the same as AP classes, but alot easier.

Also, would it be better to stick to schools in FL, where Bright Futures will pay for everything in college or should I go to a college out of state?

I know it’s early, but what schools are good for engineering and if I continue to get all A’s and a high GPA, what schools could I get into?

And, if you have any other advice, please let me know.

BTW I plan on going into the engineering field and Florida Tech is only a few miles away from me. I’m not sure how it ranks as far as engineering goes.
