national merit

My daughter plans to apply early to Penn but is not a national merit semi-finalist (she will be commended). How big of a deal is this -- if she has great grades, great extracurriculars, great AP scores and what I think are some pretty great essays. She has a 2150 SAT but plans to take it again next month. As of now, she is in the top 10 of her class at a very competitive high school. Thanks for any opinions.

A very minor deal.
Good luck.

Perhaps she should consider a career in the custodial arts. You should be ashamed of your parenting. I was being facetious, it won't matter.

it doesnt matter.

Thanks for the responses. She's really bummed but I think she understands that this one little thing won't against her.
