VBC Mom - Congrats on your D’s success. Sometimes they really can do it - all by themselves I know what you mean about more involvement. I have a hard time with that as well.

Wherenext - I definitely think your D should go. This opportunity was presented to her for a reason and she should seize it if there is a chance this is where she’ll end up. Who knows? She may visit and come home and say “THIS IS IT!”

Merry Merry to everyone whom celebrates. Step-D is celebrating with her mom this year so we are spending a nice day together. Tonight, we have a Christmas party at one of my coworker’s homes, and I’m downing cold medicine to be able to go.

So jealous of all of you actually making/backing things for Christmas. I have no clue how the stove even works. This usually is not a problem, but around the holidays, when everyone is baking cookies and such, I do wonder if I should learn. This feeling usually passes however by Jan 1st… ;)

Great to hear that you got the right payoff from trying to stay out of the way!

Every kid is different, some need a heavier hand (as I expect my s will) and some need a lighter, as my d has shown me. Deciding which strategy goes with which is the key! But deciding to back off feels like a huge risk, so it’s great to hear when the risk brings the reward.

VBCMom, great news on the acceptances, good luck on the rest!

L’Dog, I’m sorry you’ve got a cold! Not much fun when you’d like to be social!

I have to go into work this morning but then I’m off until after New Year’s so it’s worth it. Taking S’13 with me, he’s going to introduce a little easy programming and beginning animation to a friend’s young son who is into computers. Friend isn’t very computer savvy so S, after giving some advice about where to start, is stepping up to the plate!

Congratulations on the interview, Blueshoe!

wherenext, I think that your D should go on the overnight. At best the college might move up on her ranking list. At worst she will know that it doesn’t suit her. Either way there won’t be any ‘what-if’s’ when she comes to make her decision.

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! We’re having a big brunch at our house - chorizo/egg casserole, biscuits, fruit salad - before we head to church. I’ve got services from 3 to midnight, although I’m negotiating with our other associate pastor to cover the 11pm service for me. I’ve volunteered to do the children’s service at 3 so he can enjoy it with his own toddlers.

S2 is singing O Holy Night at the 7 and 9pm services, which always sends shivers down my spine. Last year, a well-known professional opera singer was in the congregation when S sang and afterward gave S lots of great encouragement. I’m hoping the same guy will be there this year to hear how much S has improved!

Wherenext, I second Lauren. Yes to the overnight!
VBC, I’ve wondered where you were. Glad to hear things are going your way.
Lauren. Get better.
Meg, enjoy your busy day!
I’ve got a few last minute errands, then to the kitchen today. StepS should be here early this afternoon and it will all be good.
Oh- and he texted he has the makings for Poinsettias, Steve! I took a picture of the recipes and texted it to him. God I love having a kid who is legal!
Merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate. Peace to everyone.

TV Congratulations on the birth of your son!! Glad all went well and nice to have you posting again!

wherenext I agree the overnight might make her change her mind, or simply confirm its not for her. Nothing wrong with taking the opportunity to be sure!

Ldog aw, feel better!!

megpmom One of my absolute favorite Christmas songs made me tear up just thinking about your son singing it!

VBCmom congrats to your D! All great schools :)

fredricksdottir I work until about 2 or 3 pm today DH and I were up until 2 am finishing Christmas cards and wrapping presents, in hopes that we will get to bed at a decent hour tonite never happens, even though we dont have to put together toys anymore!

Busy cleaning and wrapping…heading out for groceries soon…Christmas Eve dinner and movies with kids and the stepsons. A Christmas Story is on now…my favorite! I was a kid when they filmed it downtown…remember going to the old May Company and seeing the big Santa set.

TV…congrats and welcome back!

Wherenext…they want an opportunity to try and sell her on their school…I say let them try!

LDog…hope you feel better soon!

Meg…sounds beautiful…would so love to see him sing!

Good to see you VCB! How nice your D has taken the reins!

Fred…makes me think of what seems like a million years ago when I’d take my little guy to work with me over the holidays…he’s not so little now. :*(

Wherenext–I third. DD should definitely take advantage of the opportunity.

VBC–congrats to your DD on her acceptances!

Soon we will hit the road for two-hour journey to hometown, first to mom’s place, then church, then dad’s place on other end of town to sleep. Wake up, have brunch, then drive two-hours back to celebrate with our DS1 and DS2.

But before all that, have to take family dog for shots, then kennel, get gas and deposit a check at the bank.

Good morning '13’ers!
D is sick, so our out-of-town holiday plans have changed. Of course, no food in the house and minimal decorations…I need to switch gears and rework the plans to improve our at home holiday!

Not a good time for this… exams are looming after the break and this was supposed to be a week for catching up. Oh well, it will all work out.
Good luck to kids who are finishing up applications, and for those waiting on upcoming decisions.

MommyDearest 13 - I LOVE that movie. Best Christmas Movie in my opinion. Watched it with H and my nephew last night. “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!” LOL

Thanks to all for the ‘get better’ wishes. At least it’s just a little cold and not the dreaded ‘flu’ or anything close. A little Dayquill will get me through!

Megpmom, I’d love to be there to hear your S sing “O Holy Night”!

Our2girls, thank goodness we no longer have to put the toys together! I can remember the time spent over a grocery store toy for D, it took forever! I hope you get to bed in good time tonight!

anniezz, so sorry your D is sick, it does put a damper on the holiday!

kelijake, it sounds like a holiday marathon!

Happy Holidays to everyone who celebrates! :)

Waiting for snow here…the weatherman says by noon it should really start. I hope their right because we really haven’t gotten any this season (so to speak) and our summer water costs depends on how much snow we get…So let’s get this show on the road

We just got a light dusting of snow to cover the old stuff and make everything look pretty again :D. Merry Christmas everyone (and if you don’t hear from me again I got trampled at the grocery store picking up last minute things):D.

MyLB, waiting for that snow too! Pretty way for Christmas to arrive.
D and I made a fast foray to the mall. It’s full of men. Men who look unhappy. And harried. And generally like they would rather be anywhere else. I find that hilarious.

TV: Congratulations on the birth of your son!

Wherenext: I’d say she should go on the trip. There’s a lot of changing of the mind during senior year, so this trip will either help the school rise up on their list (which is why they’re offering it!) or it will solidify the others as front runners.

I’m off to run a few errands but wanted to wish everyone here a very Merry Christmas if you celebrate. I’m planning on taking a media fast till Wednesday :)

fredricksdottir – ha ha – I remember DH and me getting a digital camera for our older D quite awhile back and a Barbie Airplane for our younger D, both from Santa. At that late time of the night the stickers for the various food items were not quite square on the plastic pieces in the Barbie airplane due to lack of sleep…and we tried for about 15 minutes to get the camera to work…at 1:00 am, when you cannot get another one before Santa gives it to her…only to figure out we had the batteries in backwards! We stole upstairs and took a picture of her sleeping and left a note from Santa saying he just wanted to make sure it worked :)

89wahoo - LOL! One of the guys here at work just left to go to Macy’s to shop for his wife’s gift…happens every year! I think that’s the reason he works Christmas Eve!

Thank you guys for your advise on the overnight! We were feeling guilty that she might be taking advantage of them if they aren’t currently her first choice. Good point that they are being proactive and know she has strong options. D has withdrawn her app to two schools to let other kids get in that she knows she won’t attend.

Sunny day today after heavy rain. Beautiful but not a white Christmas like some of you! Love the recipes and activities everyone is having.

My 6 year old dog has bad breath and is not as active as usual. Worried about her as we leave town a few days after the holidays. Taking her to the vet at 2pm scramble to church after and then tritip pot roast from the crockpot and an arugula/pomegranate salad for Xmas Eve dinner. Thank goodness this is the tradition, so easy and I can take care of my dog. I am hoping she doesn’t have a heart murmur. This breed gets them around her age.

Annie- bummer for D and you on Christmas! Wishing a speedy recovery! Ldog feel better!

Crazy people we need to get our stuff done and off this site! I bet I will be back here before Santa does his thing though! :)
