89Wahoo–the interview is in a couple of weeks. Yeah, there is certainly time to come up with something no one under the age of 18 has ever done before…!

drmom123–easy—listened to their parents
:D…

SteveMA: YUP!! that’s it…now, how to get her to do it, just once…in the next week… :)

See, that’s why I was always in trouble. Give me a challenge and I’ll come up with the weirdest crap you could never imagine.

When I went through sorority rush, I knew that there were two sororities that would never, ever consider me. I knew that they had studied every girls profile. I decided to mess with their heads. I claimed that I grew up in Paris and that although my parents were divorced, that my daddy was a world famous neurosurgeon (all they cared about was what your daddy did). My parents were/are married, my dad is an engineer and my mom didn’t go to college. I was a solid middle class kid. I barely knew where Paris was. The best part was watching those judgmental girls eyes move rapidly back and forth in their skulls trying to remember my face and my profile. It was hilarious. They did not invite me back. Lol

My point is, and I always tell my kids this, is to just be yourself. Not everyone you meet likes you, and you them. So what? You will go on to be a success with or without them.

Walker-- I agree with you completely. She should just be herself…with a little less anxiety for that particular 1/2 hour…
and, smiling is always helpful…but, if she doesn’t listen to mom…then, she won’t try just being herself… so complicated!

Walker - if DD decides on Miami she should look into their Club Swim team - we have known several people that have been on the team and they really enjoyed it - they travel and compete against other club teams.

Thanks ashmuoh, that is good info to have. She would enjoy that. Her other top school is D3 and she could swim for them and also run cross country. Lots of stuff to consider.

Walker - A very big congrats!!!

ashmuoh - I had NO idea that your username referred to a school!! and then shouldn’t it be “ashumoh”? ;)

critter - True 'dat (that’s not really how I talk…) about the forgetting posts posted in the wee hours! I TOTALLY forgot that I had actually posted about missing the SAT deadline!!

YDS - Yay for being bored!!!

Quick anectodote on how kids can surprise us. I was very upset with DH the other night, and kids all seemed to think I was more “in the right”. They were supportive of me, especially DS13, who can be the least supportive. He stayed up late talking with me and was the friend I needed. Today he and his brothers (and yes… DH, too) all helped move my mom’s biggest furniture from her home into the assisted living facility she is officially moving into tomorrow! DS had to drive in some pretty slick snow, his first time, and he was very careful. He did a great job all around. Good vibes for him today. :)

My drink of the day is a REAL pina colada, with cream of coconut and pinapple juice (not a mix like I usually do).
I have til Tues to eat/drink whatever I want, then Jan 1, it all starts again… time to pull myself back together. :D

Bumping because I hate seeing us on page deaux.

Walker–we are number 1 after all :D.

'Rents of 2013/2017 Rock.

Drmom - S says his Alum interview at his HMFR was very casual. Although I did have him watch a youtube video about the school and learn a few facts to throw out if asked. (Someone recommended it). We also had a “pep talk” before he left to remind him of all the accomplishments he had made during high school - none of which were curing cancer (or listening to mom
) i know this always make me feel more confident before job interviews. Good luck
:)

Congrats to Walker’s kid on the full tuition to Miami U! That was on my list for my D for a long time. Ultimately she took it off without ever seeing it. I hear very good things though!

We are winding down folks! Soon all this will be behind us. May many, many acceptances come rolling in over the next few months!

My Mom and her SO just left today. They have been here since the twenty-freaking-third, in our house with no guest bedroom. The whole house smells like Ben-Gay. I am not even kidding. Thank you sweet baby Jesus that I have my house back!!

Who is expecting some kind of college news in January? We are expecting J M U and I hear it can come out after the first week of January. It’s an online portal thing. After that, we wait til Feb, then March, then finish up in April. Trickle effect!

We have one EA that is suppose to decided Jan 25th. I also think that will include information as to whether S will be invited to the Scholarship Invitational.

D has a trio due- Vandy I’m guessing j M U will be friday the 11th. Hoping for honors acceptance. Then U N C which is a reach OOS ( not to mention financially) and U V A. Then two more in April but January is the big month here to me anyway. I’m going to be watching the stats at J M U very carefully as its S14’s #1 right now.

DS has 1 in January-University of Utah (keeping fingers crossed that on the 7th it’s a YES)!

Walker - congratulations on the scholarship and the 2nd poem was amazing too!

YDS - wish I was bored, I printed off 6 scholarship apps and wrote down the info for 4 more. DS “loves” all my help!
FAFSA is next :(

DS finally looked at the emails I had flagged (he used my email address for the college apps) from Universities he had been accepted to, asking him to do some things: housing stuff, account set up stuff, honors stuff. He looked at me and said “I thought I was all done when I applied.” Ugg…

Vandygrad, If you didn’t cook such great meals, they probably wouldn’t stay so long! (I still remember envying your menu LOL).

Greekmama, if you got your kids to finish their apps in a timely fashion by asking for that as a gift, more power to you! I tried that and D dug in her heels and said, forget it. I’ve got until Jan 10. Now I am just trying to keep my mouth shut so that she’ll finish everything before she goes back to school on the 5th.

So where does everyone secretly hope their child chooses to attend? My #1 (if she gets in) is Sciences Politiques in Le Havre, France because it is a 3 yr focused undergrad program that would suit my D’s interests, she’d develop fluency in Chinese and French And I’d get to visit. Ole Miss would be my 2nd choice because the Honors college is outstanding and they have shown DD a lot of love.

thanks Galaxy, for the interview tips. If DD will “listen” for even a moment, I might get a chance to mention it to her!
Vandy- I feel your pain. My mom will be coming to our home after her hip surgery in about a week. We also have no guest room; but we do have love, warmth and food…my kids and dh are already questioning “why???”…and sometimes I do too. But, she really has nowhere else to go—and i’d hate seeing her alone in her apartment with her cat…reovering…she says it may be for 6 weeks…“yikes”!!
on another note: I just found out that the “midyear” grades, for our school, because of the SUPERSTORM SANDY will not be “finalized” until February 15th and “sent later” than that date. Some of our schools want the midyear grades sent by February 1st…not sure what to do about that one…

Apollo6: I “hope” my son gets into his first school even tho choice #2 would be cheaper. It’ll be decided on 01/07/13. He has applied to 4 schools total, in at 3, and waiting on 1.

Apollo6 - Could you give some details about why Ole Miss is so high on your list. It’s one of the schools that DS is considering, and I’d love to hear your comments.
