I am keeping my mouth firmly clenched in regards to Ole Miss. I know you all will be grateful :)

Walker1194 - I sent you a PM - I’d like to hear all sides regarding ole Miss. Thanks.

DD has two more schools to hit send on. Ugh. Up to her, if she does it, great, if not, she has completed 6 other apps.

I am having a difficult time deciding what my #1 for DD is. All her schools except her instate safety would be an awesome choice for her, but for different reasons. There are 3 on her list that I would prefer she not go to, but if she decided that was the school for her, I’d be fine with it. For us, the money (combination of merit and financial) may be the deciding factor. We are a no debt wanna be family, but willing to take on 15 to 20K if we that is what DD decides.

Good luck to those finalizing those last essays and good luck to those waiting to here good news!

As of five minutes ago, D is finished applying to college!!! True to her musical nature, she blasted Hallelujah Chorus throughout the house to celebrate the occasion!!

She ended up applying to to 6. She already has two acceptances, is waiting on two in January, and the other two are regular decision with spring release dates.

Thanks, Walker! For a Northerner all Southern colleges are the same until it comes to the specific programs and course options and of course the amount of love shown to the student. If Bama had a Chinese flagship, we might be saying, Roll Tide! All I know is that the Honors College is much better at Ole Miss than at our state flagship and football has been very good to Ole Miss. ;)

@Apollo: I think you can probably hear my jaw snapping shut. Especially reagrding football. I’ve lived all over so my football allegiances shall remain a private consideration. And I do understand that we all try to send our kids where we think is best for their education. Mouth off on this subject now.

My D and I have absolutely no interest in sports but if $$$ follow sports and enable a university to fund programs and keep a beautiful campus, they are a good thing (of course they are great opportunities for student athletes and fans as well ).

Great line from my son today…visiting family, he got the usual “have you picked which college you’re going to yet?” His reply was “yep, I PICKED it, they just haven’t decided to let me in yet.”

Vandygrad…lol at bengay…you must like your mom to let her stay an entire week! Not expecting any decisions in January, just awaiting scholarship invites.

Walker…you D is a beautiful writer…I’d love to see what she wrote for U of C.

Blue shoe…hallelujah indeed…congrats!

After being tied up three days in a row, S is finally working on those last two essays. The only other recent news on the college front is an acceptance into honors at t O S U.

congratulation MommyDearest!!

Congrats, MD13!! Is OSU high on his list?

And thanks for the kudos for DD13a. Her UChicago Waldo essay was fun but had a solid, mature point. I liked it a lot. I guess it wasn’t nerdy enough though :). Whateva… Their loss if she doesn’t get accepted RD. Even if she does idk if I’d pony up with the benjamins for her to go. Free is good and we have one. So far ;)

Good luck to everybody’s kids who are submitting last minute apps. D just finished her last essay for Jan. 1 and has one more college due on Jan 15th. She will hit the submit button later tonight and tomorrow can be spent looking for food for tomorrow night’s dinner. DH, DS, and DFES (dear foreign exchange son) are out skiing in Colorado, and DD (applying to college) and DFED (dear foreign exchange daughter) are here. It will be a quiet NYE.

Apollo6- It didn’t work! Two days after my birthday and they are both still plugging away on essays! Making progress but will definitely go down to the line. And the last one that one has saved is Chicago. I don’t even know if he can pull that one off in one day!

ashmuoh-- I don’t get the school reference…:(

We had to evacuate our house today due to a gas leak, so the kids got a short break. I think they were hoping for a huge explosion to get out of the last two apps! Thank goodness it didn’t turn out that way and the gas company got it fixed quickly!

pretty scary, GreekMana!! we had a fire in our furnace last winter…that was scary too. Good luck everyone with final APPs before the new year!!
still haven’t done the CSS – which was on my list for the weekend. I guess It’ll all get done eventually.

Oh no, Greek…glad you’re all ok…my husband is a smoker…the idea of a gas leak terrifies me! S had to drop a school off his list as he realized there was no way he was going to finish their lengthy supplement in time. No way he could pull off Chicago in a day since there’s nothing he could repurpose!

Good luck to everyone with apps yet to send off!

GreekMana - the end of my user name is muoh (Miami University Ohio) The first three are my high school.

Mommydearest - your ds and my dd seem to be on the same path - she also go the letter from t O S U honors - now to do that scholarship app - has ds decided?

Good luck on everyone still doing applications/scholarship apps and waiting for January decisions! No drama/anxiety here as my D has decided where she is going. It wasn’t originally my #1 choice for her but as I have looked more closely since she has been leaning that way, I must agree that it is a great choice for her. Lots of opportunity in her major or if she decides to change majors, very appealing honors college, fits perfectly with her college-unrelated passion, AND meets her parents’ criteria for cost! Could change based on an overnight visit in February, but I doubt it. I enjoy following all your posts and pulling for all of you, but in the words of YDS – I’m bored … So much so, that I started investigating schools for DS15

Love the poems Walker!

Greek: Glad everything is okay!

Great response and positive attitude S of MD13!

Congrats on all the recent acceptances and good luck on the acceptance and scholarship interviews coming up. D got an invite to apply for an additional scholarship at her #1 but decided the emphasis didn’t really fit her. As nice as the additional money would have been, I had to agree with her that it would be a very long shot and wasn’t worth the effort.

The only anxiety here right now is waiting to hear about National Merit status. Means substantial $$ at her #1, and she should get Finalist, but we don’t know for sure about the high school’s part in the process. I keep telling myself that her HS has several of these every year so they should know what they are doing…

DD just sent two of her 1/1 apps, has two more to do, although one of those is almost done. Then she has five due 1/15. DS has four more due 1/15, but at least he doesn’t start back at school until 1/7. She goes back 1/3.

Wecome pkdof13 and good luck on the apps remaining for your DD and DS! Wow, another set of twins?!

Well D is out for the night. Still two more supplements to finish tomorrow (or I suppose Jan 1 - eek I hope not). A couple more essays to be tweaked/written. She says it’s all doable. I have to work tomorrow so I hope DH is up to the task of any nagging/proofing/cajoling/ supporting that needs to be done. I would really like those apps to be done before she goes out tomorrow night (and I hate being the bad guy / nag all the time).

She will have applied to 8 in total (dropped off a 9th school that is due Jan 15 that I wanted her to add but that she says she is not interested in now…oh well).

All RD with end of March notification dates. I think she has a pretty solid safety that she would be happy to attend but it’s still a LAC so no auto admit based on published stats. The waiting is making me crazy (and at the same time I don’t want to wish away her senior year either).
