Parents of the HS Class of 2015

Congrats to all!! That’s the way to start the weekend.

We should be getting word on one next week and if the news isn’t good then I’ll be doing everything I can to withhold the info until next weekend–it’s finals week here next week and I don’t want bad news interfering.

SAT Reasoning Test - $52.50
SAT Subject Tests - $68.00
Advanced Placement Tests - $1424.00
College Applications - $450.00

Receiving an acceptance on December 11 and realizing that you will be spending the holiday break doing absolutely nothing connected with college applications - Priceless

Congratulations @latichever and @erlanger!!! Disembark and enjoy the holidays!

@skieurope, are you describing yourself there?

@suzy100 Yes.

Waiting on MIT for EA tomorrow (does anyone know why 3:16 pm?). Feeling nervous because DS wants this SO badly, and while his stats are very good, they may not be enough.

He did get some fun news yesterday though which may help ease the sting if MIT’s news isn’t what he wants. DS applied for All-Eastern Chorus but DS’s teacher didn’t hear anything on the day results were released, which was the day before he left for All-State Chorus. So, he went to All-State a little sad. Came back even sadder because he met so many fun people who had been accepted to All-Eastern and he wasn’t going to get to sing with them again there. Then yesterday his chorus teacher called; apparently, there was a mix-up at the All-Eastern office and he was accepted. He is so, so happy  . So it’s a good weekend, either way.

Too bad it’s too late to add that to the MIT app, though!

Congrats, Skieurope!

@mdcmom‌ MIT releases at 3:16 so that their release is on 12-13-14-15-16 (the first 3 numbers being the date and the last two being at 3:16 PM using military time). And their RD release is on Pi Day: 3-14 As a self-professed nerd, I appreciate the nerd humor in this.

@mdcmom: Typical MIT humor. Their decisions are coming out on 12/13/14 at 15:16 (if you use military time). I believe their tradition is to release RD results on 3/14 (Pi Day) at 6:28 PM (tau).

Congrats to everyone around here whose child went one and done! I’m strapping in for a long, long ride.

Huge congratulations to @latichever, @erlanger and @skieurope!! Wonderful news. I hope we get continued good news here in the days to come.

And that is great about the chorus @mdcmom! It sounds like something that will create cherished memories for your son.

Congratulations @latichever, @erlanger, and @skieurope! Great way to start the weekend!!

@green678: I wish I could press the “like” button 100 times. I love that! And the Pi Day release is at the 9th minute of the 15th hour? Makes me wish DS had applied to MIT!

MIT plays with the time of the release based on the date to make it numerically significant. In 2011, they released it 2011-12-17 at 12:20 something.

I love MIT for their nerdiness too. :)

YAY @skieurope and congratulations to your S, @mdcmom! Hoping for more good news for you guys tomorrow.

This is getting real.

Adding my congratulations to you three! (I’m on my phone…can’t tag or type well).

D’s reaches are all rd and she’s still working on supps so we wait. You guys can start buying twin xl sheets and looking at course catalogs! Yay!

Congrats @skieurope! Enjoy your holidays, you’ve earned it!

Re: additional scholarship paperwork, D’s list goes something like this:

1st choice, visited, loves, has her exact major, would go in a heartbeat and the price is reasonable with the merit aid received. Waiting for decisions on additional scholarship info she filled out, will hear in March.

2nd choice, visited, also loves. Major isn’t as close, but could probably work it to cater to her needs/wants. Loves the fact it is so close to family, which none of the others schools are. Is the most expensive, but depending on merit amount, might be doable, but would still be more expensive than any of her other schools.

3rd choice, haven’t visited but she seems to like what she sees on paper and web and it has her exact major. The cheapest option of all, but the farthest away. Still talking about this one.

4th choice, visited, just rec’d acceptance. Liked it at first, but has fallen down on the list, not sure why. This one I think is probably not going to be a contender, but is in the same $ range as #2 at the moment. This one has more scholarships she could be applying for.

5th choice, visited, doesn’t even remember it and is not in contention any more.

Just trying to figure out what to do with #3 - I think she could like this school if she saw it. But it is 8.5 hours away by car and she isn’t fond of airplanes. This one I think might have to be discussed, pros and cons and we will see what happens.

So just writing it out has been beneficial. I think we will do some heavy discussions over Christmas break and see if we can get some clarity on whether to pursue additional scholarship options at above schools. Thanks for letting me “talk” it out!

Road trip to #3? I love college road trips :)

@OHMomof2 - I love college road trips myself, very relaxing. Trying to squeeze this in might be tough with her work schedule, some road tripping to college #1 for scholarship interview (which might actually help if she decides right then and there she likes it enough to take everything else off her list) and 2 others siblings at home.

I think we will plan for something in March, probably during her spring break, if she hasn’t made a full commitment to #1 by then.

I just caught up…several of you are headed to the Lido Deck for multiple adult beverages, lounge chairs, suntan oil applications possibly by cabana staff…very nice !!

@mdcmom‌ @skieurope‌ @erlanger‌ Congratulations! Friend of my daughter loves it at Brown

Thanks for good wishes. My son is very excited. We were actually a bit surprised he decided on Williams ED because–having been there over the years–he said he didn’t want to be in the “middle of nowhere.” But the visit, this summer when he began to focus, sold him. I think the visit’s emphasis on the quality of the education–small classes taught only by faculty, and no graduate students to compete with for research opportunities, plus a sold chance to make the lacrosse team, and the music.
