Polymer lead mech.l pencils scan/score issue?

It occured to us that the last time our son took standardized tests, he used mechnical pencils with "super high-polymer" lead, stated to be equavalent (but not the same as) No. 2. His scores were much lower than his prior ones when he used real pencils, and a big surprise to him, as he had not felt unsure. Has anyone else had the same experience?

If you think it really might be an issue, you can have the CB hand score the test. I don't recall, but I think you have to pay for it unless there is a score change...

I haven't used said "super high-polymer" lead but I have used lead that wasn't called No. 2, but was "equivalent" according to No.2 according to them. I noticed no difference in using it, and I actually got a higher sat score (i used a lead pencil the second time I took the test). i think he might have just messed up that exam.
