Question about Parking

I received parking for the year in Sunset Village. However, I was wondering how difficult it is to get parking in lots 4 or 7. Are those reserved for upperclassmen or given on a first apply, first serve basis? Will I have a better chance of getting either of those lots next year or is it completely random?

Lots 4 and 7 always have lots of room. Generally when they lift people from the waitlist they're offered 4 or 7, so I suspect that they save some of the space for this purpose. I put 7 as my first choice and 4 as my second choice and I was placed in 7 without issue.

It doesn't matter when you apply as long as you do it by the deadline. Upperclassmen don't get any more points than underclassmen do, but it may or may not effect their placement decisions.

However, I think that living in the dorms may make it harder to receive 4 or 7. I have a friend last year who lived in summit and who got a permit in 7, but she applied in winter quarter and I think she used her job in OC to help with the points. Most dorm people get SV or 11.

Anyway, next year just put those as your first and second choices and assuming you have enough points to be granted parking at all, it should be ok. But maybe not, because parking tends to be really random sometimes.

I'm a commuter student. I put 4 as my first choice and 7 as my second. Lot SV was my 5th choice so I do not understand why I was given that one. It's somewhat far from north campus.

It is somewhat far, but it's not too bad. A lot of people actually choose to get to North campus along that side of Young Dr N.

And hm. Then placements might be decided by year level or something. Regardless you'll have a better shot next year.
