My daughter is a Sophomore at LU, and all I remember doing last year was filling out the FAFSA as soon as possible. It is more to continue existing aid. Her EFC was subsantially unchanged, so everything continued.

I just filed the FAFSA since my son will be in college in the fall, and some of the schools had Feb 1 deadlines. Since I was filling it out for the Son, I filled it out for the Daughter too. EFC for Daughter dropped in half, althought the combination between the 2 kids is the same as last year. When I finally do my taxes in Feb or March, I will update the FAFSA.

Can’t hurt to file an estimated FAFSA now, and finalize it by April. The deadline for returning students to file the FAFSA is April 1. I have no idea when they start looking at it for returning studends. If your EFC doesn’t change much, then expect the same as last year. If it has changed a lot, after you file the FAFSA, give the Financial Aid office a call.
