<p>I heard from someone who probably wouldn’t know that Michigan alum’s kids get reduced tuition. He said it was in-state tuition for the first year. At UNC they count alum’s kids as in state for admissions purposes, so similar things exist. Can you put this rumor to rest now, or is there some merit to it?</p>

<p>UNC doesn’t count alumni children as instate for admissions purposes, just to clarify that. Out of State alumni children go into a separate pool of applicants, and it is definitely easier to get in with the alumni connection than without, if you are out of state, but it’s still a tough admit!</p>
<p>No, Michigan definitely does NOT discount tuition for legacies. Not the first year, not any year.</p>
<p>That would kinda go against the whole point of legacies. A major reason why schools accept legacies are because they tend to be higher income and can afford the tuition in full. So I kind of doubt it, but it is a public school so I guess it could be possible.</p>
