that looks hard to get into...that's what she said. projections please?

i love michael scott, even though he can get a tad bit annoying

asian male (didnt indicate race on 1 or 2 apps because i forgot to change it)
uber competitive public school

UW GPA ~3.77 most rigorous courseload
Weighted 4.27, 4.375 if (10-11)
decent upward trend ever since i got a 3.4 UW my 1st sem sophomore year
10-11 APs by the end of the year. 5’s in all the 5 APs i’ve taken thus far (Calc BC, USH, Eng Lang Comp, Physics B, Bio)

Other Coursework:
CSULA Summer Quarter 2003-3 Physics and Chemistry classes at CSULA under an Early Entrance Program and got a 3.7 gpa
CSULA Summer Quarter 2007-2 Astronomy Courses and 1 Euro Hist 4.0 gpa

ECs (as they appear on my app, not necessarily in order of importance):
Track and Field (9th) - Pretty much won everything a freshman could in the league meets. too little space on the common app >[
Yearbook (10th) - Sports Staff, was made the Sports Editor, but dropped it.
Quizbowl (10th,11th,12th) - Leadership position, plenty of wins, nationals appearances, the works
Ocean Science Bowl (11th, 12th)-laid the smackdown on everyone until the end 3rd place =(
Science Bowl (11th,12th) - Captain
Red Cross (9th,10th,11th) - 140+ hours, rounded it to 150
Juggling/Rubik’s Cube Club (10th,11th,12th) -Vice President

Internship at a local Dental Office (Last Last summer)
Internship at local Aviation Company-Logistics (Last summer)
no research, which i find to be a weakness (too late to do anything about it)

Random Awards and Such:
CSF Gold Seal (pending), AP Scholar with Distinction,Scholar Athelete,School Board Recognition Award (for Quizbowl), Principal Honor Roll, Horde of Quizbowl,Sci Bowl, Ocean Sci Bowl, and Track Awards

Testing:
SAT I: 2340 (780 CR, 780 M, 780 W) an improvement from the 2090 a year ago, no prep classes/prep. yay!
ACT: 34 (got this 3 times, wouldve gotten 35s if it werent for rounding)
SAT Subject Tests:
Bio M-750, Math IIC -800, Physics-780, US History-800, Chinese-790

Essays: hmm, not necessarily thought provoking/revolutionary/shocking, but a fair bit of personality. the “why _____” essays are decent.

Recs: Should be quite good, but i waived my rights, so yea, no idea

Schools (some of which selected TI 84 random int generator-i kid you not):
Columbia (the college), Cornell (CAS), JHU (BME/Bio alternate), Stanford, UPenn (SEAS-im a ■■■■■■ for applying here instead of SAS), Northwestern (CAS), Duke (CAS)

accepted U of C EA, but since i was quite far along on other apps, i submitted them anyway

how i see myself:
pros: upward trend for everything (gpa, tests, ecs?) starting 2nd half of 10th. strong ecs compared to most people from the same school, competitve test scores.
cons: poor gpa compared to applicants from the same school. 3.0 gpa in toughest math curriculum, may inevitably come across as cookie cutter asian (see test scores, ecs, and interest in science shrug)

so, help me confirm the inevitable: i see 3/4 rejection letters, and umm i hope this will not jinx me and be a harbinger of ill fortune.

Correction: that’s what HE said.

I see you accepted at 4-5 of them. then again, i’m just another senior.

i hate chances threads with a vengeance, but i <3 the office, so… i don’t really think i agree with the “3/4 rejection” thing, i’d say you look pretty good as an applicant. (but then again who really knows.)

you juggle! wowza. and i have never ever managed to figure out a rubik’s cube in my life. props to you.

so, just hang in there, it’ll be over soon. i hope you come out satisfied.

[ ]

yep, i hope i come out satisfied and smiling

i figured out a rubiks cube–but then, it was halfway done, and I transferred some of the stickers to other parts of the cube, so I don’t think that counts…

actually, rubik’s cubing isnt’ too hard. just google “frinrich method” or “corners first method” if you’re curious. anyway, does anyone know how badly i owned my shot at penn SEAS with a B avg in Math (which just happens to be contradictory to the perceived asian sterotype) hmmm… if only i majored in Literature or something…nah… parents would kill me

should i have sent my ap score reports? i did, but one of my friends said it wasnt necessary

!!bump!!

double eewww teeee effffff
rejected from NU and Duke
what is this madness?

Madness?

THIS…IS…college.

As much as I hate 300 references, that did make me laugh.

man, after seeing some of the other results, i’m afraid i’ve become slightly disillusioned

HAHA! that made me laugh…

if rejected at NU and Duke (the latter my mom forced me to apply to >[ ), any shot at cornell, columbia, penn, or jhu? yes, i am looking for an excuse to travel during spring break

if hopkins doesn’t accept you, I’ll be scared &*^$less for my own admission chances next year lol. Good luck!

waitlist at hopkins = surprising
rejected at stanford = not surprising

yep. bad day

I’m officially scared &$*@less…

actually, i wouldnt be too scared. despite what schools say, i do think they set unofficial quotas for each high school. usually we get 5-7 acceptances from jhu, and while my test scores and activities are quite a bit higher than most (>30 2200s or better in my class of 1000ish kids), i was beat on the gpa. my school had lots of near 4.00s and 2300+ apply, so yea…i was bumped out of consideration i guess. sucks to be at such a competitive public school; nonetheless i’m looking forward to kicking butt at uchicago or berkeley at the moment

but yea, in terms of pure numbers, i find i compare pretty dang favourably to most schools. i just dont understand why i have had such a disgusting degree of underachievement on the admissions side of things

that sux about the GPA thing man…I kinda feel for you, coming from a competitive school (in NJ) myself!
