UCs accept D's for senior year?

<p>My friend is a good guy. He has a 4.1 GPA 10-11 GPA with a 2030 (i think) SAT score. But this year he started calculus AB and he’s getting a D which is pretty bad. The semester is almost over and i don’t think he’ll get it up to a C. He’s not a math person so i don’t even know why he took calculus mainly because it’s very rigorous at our school. Will the UC people reject him? I really don’t want him to go to Junior college because of this.</p>

<p>Maybe not, as long as everything else goes well. Perhaps they will, but it’s possible that they will. Some schools are probably more likely to do it than others, but my advice- call each UC to which he applied and ask about a person under his circumstances.</p>

<p>you have to send a letter explaining it to them and they decide from there. If it isnt a class that is required, it doesnt matter</p>

<p>There is no doubt that a D will negatively affect his chances, but I don’t think they will flat-out reject him for it.</p>

<p>Some factors need to be taken into account.</p>

<p>Is he going into a mathematics/science/engineering major?</p>

<p>Does he have extracurricular strengths?</p>

<p>WHICH UC are you concerned about? (unless its Berkeley or Los Angeles, or maybe even San Diego, I doubt it will affect the decision.)</p>

<p>Tell him to just push through. I don’t recommend you send a letter for the simple reason that the office is filled with convoluted letters which frustrate them (ie: I tried my best, but I still got a bad grade.) Honestly, there is no uncontrollable circumstance why he is getting a bad grade (unless he had some family tragedy/struggle of course.) It will just seem whiney for him to say that he is “not a math person.” </p>

<p>I’d say its best to tell him to do as best as he can, TRY and pull it up to a C, or if anything, ask his GC to mention in his report (or at least have him send a letter) explaining that the class is hard.</p>

<p>I also hope he doesn’t have to go to comm. college :)</p>

<p>He’s applying as a non math major or science. I don’t know the exact major but i know he’s not a math/science person.</p>
