Saftey/Match–UC-Boulder
Match–SMU/NYU
Reach/Match–WUStL/Johns Hopkins/Emory

Molly,

UC-Boulder, Safety
SMU - Match
NYU - Weak Match
WUSTL - Weak Match to Reach
JHU - Weak Match to Reach
Emory - Weak Match to Reach

For your intended major, I like most of these schools, although you should look carefully at NYU’s Bio program to be sure that it matches up to your interests. I don’t think their undergraduate Bio department is as broad as others of your choices listed.

At schools such as WUSTL and Emory, be sure you demonstrate interest by making contact with their Admissions departments, e.g., campus visit, order a video/DVD, e-mail the admissions people, etc.

For Emory, your GPA is about average for enrolled freshmen, and your test scores (either of your SAT or ACT) are slightly below average. Your academic rigor is difficult to assess because you have fewer AP classes (which have known curriculum) and more honors classes (which are inconsistent from one secondary school to the next). I like your EC’s, and you appear to stand out in debate (did you distinguish yourself with NFL ranking?). If I’m reading correctly, am I to understand you worked up to 32 hrs/wk. and 2 jobs while attending school? Good essays are important as well. Also, coming from Oklahoma may give you a slight bump up (geographical diversity). Your overall profile has an appeal. Good luck!
