When did you hear back from Rice?

This is my first time on College Confidential.

I’m a high school senior who’s been accepted to Texas A&M, but I’m hesitantly applying to Rice University. I saw on Rice’s checklist that they expect notification of your decision by April 1 for regular application, one month earlier than A&M. Does anyone know about when Rice contacts applicants or does it vary? I’d like to apply for A&M’s Terry Foundation Scholarship but you have to have been admitted to the school by January 10. If it makes any difference, I’m applying to the architecture program at Rice and although my portfolio is strong, the program is so exclusive I doubt I’ll get in.

I’m not sure but some have already got their ED decisions. You can check out Rice 2018 thread: colleges/ rice university/ class of 2018 (sorry I don’t know how to link to the thread  ). The thread is pretty active. Good luck

(1) You’re reading the Rice timetable incorrectly. RD candidates will receive notification of Rice’s decision by April 1. If admitted, you don’t need to make a decision (or submit an enrollment deposit) until May 1.

(2) Since you’ve already been admitted to A&M, there’s no reason why you can’t apply for the Terry Foundation Scholarship immediately. According to what you just posted, the only requirement for applying is to have been admitted, which you have been. You do not have to have accepted the offer of admission or submitted an enrollment deposit. In other words, you apply for the scholarship even though you don’t yet know if you’ll be attending A&M.

And that’s the norm for scholarship applications, by the way. Most candidates need both an admissions decision AND a scholarship decision before deciding whether or not to enroll. So the scholarship application always precedes the deadline for making decisions.
