<p>I think my course load is sort of unusual in general, and I know that it is unusual for my school (U.Vermont) Last semester I took five classes (16 credits) two of which were intermediate level (US Foreign Relations for history and Critical Approaches to Lit in English) Neither class had ever had a freshman in it before, I spoke with both professors over the summer, sent them AP scores and essays and they let me in. I ended up getting an A in the foreign relations seminar and a B+ in English (my lowest grade, blech) This semseter, MWF is fairly usual for freshman, two intro classes (American Political System and Stats) and the second half of the intermediate level history class. However, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, my day goes like this–
9-2: Intern for Senator Leahy (who went to Georgetown… will this help AT ALL with their ad comm?) I’m the only freshman or sophmore intern they’ve ever had.<br>
3 30- 4 45: This senior political science seminar, POLS 259, the hardest poli sci class at my school, which usually juniors aren’t even allowed in. I had the prof for intro international relations last semester and he LOVES me. I somehow just talked my way into the class, which I absolutely love. It’s fast paced, it’s hard, and people seem genuinely interested in the subject, which is what I wish all my classes were like.
5-6: Indepedent study (English 198- Readings and Research) with a published author who is also a professor at my schools. It’s a creative writing/poetry Indepednet Study.</p>

<p>So, my question is, will adcoms look at my Tuesdays and Thursdays favorably? Is this kind of thing expected/the norm? I’ve been led by my profs and advisors to believe it is not, but I’m not really so sure about that in the world outside of UVM.<br>
If this matters, my intermediate history prof and senior seminar poli sci teacher are the ones writing my recs…</p>

<p>It seems a normal schedule to me, maybe a tad overloaded but within normal ranges nonetheless. </p>

<p>This semester it turned out that I have one day with over 8 hours of classes, and many days with over five and a half hours.</p>

<p>haha, I just wanted to know if being in upper level classes (which is unusual FOR MY SCHOOL) is unusual in… the rest of the college world, and if ad comms will look favorably upon independent studies and internships as opposed to just straight up normal freshman courseloud.

<p>Oh, definitely. A good GPA is nothing without the hard classes. Definitely a cutting edge. You have good chances. The internships and the other stuff too of course.
P.S. I removed my post. It was kind of rude. After all you do have the same SAT scores as me. I should be nice.</p>
