Anyone notice… The common app supplemental says 850 characters which is about 130 words and the regular app says like 5 lines on their page which is like 75 words.
which one should we follow?

way to go MIT…
some math involved there
who cares…just write as much as you want…others got in here even when their essays were longer than 500 and when their short answers exceeded 5 lines or whatever…

but obviously it doesn’t always work for i got a rejection letter :)

MIT - you should follow whichever application you are using. However, they aren’t very strict about the word limit.

The people that got accepted… what application did you use and what was the word count?

I used the NYU app. Mine were 85, 95, 65 and 64. I got in. I wrote super tiny for it, though.

anyone else…

my suplements all fit iwthin 5 lines, they were rather choppy senetences and many word errors because i didnt feel like checking it over, my essay exceeded 900 words.
