Temple vs. Drexel

alyssa81696alyssa81696 Registered User Posts: 5 New Member
I recently was accepted to Temple, but I had my eyes on Drexel for the longest time. After looking at forums and reviews on Temple, I am sort of conflicted. I plan to major in Biomedical Engineering, but I also wanted to minor in something like Economics or Marketing.

I was wondering if someone can compare and contrast the two based on:
- All around experience
- Biomedical Engineering program
- Co-op (I know both schools offer it)
- Food/Meals and Dorm Life
- Costs

Temple generally is cheaper unless u get nice scholarship from Drexel. I think and could be totally wrong that Drexel has stronger engineering program. i know a kid at each school and both love their schools. I think current students can answer the rest of your questions better than me, a mom. Congrats on the accept!

    1. I think the all around experience at Temple is better because of the diversity of the student body, size, and opportunities available. However, Drexel gives great opportunities and is in university city ( a great part of the city). It depends exactly what you are looking for in an "All around experience".
    2. Biomedical engineering is a brand new program at Temple University and I think this actually might be its first or second year. I know for a fact that Temple recruited some of the best research and teaching professors around for the new program. However, if you want a well established program check out Drexel. The co-op program at Drexel is competitive, but I know people who got jobs just because of their co-ops. If your financial situation is a concern, then I would recommend Temple.
    3. I don't really know much about Temple's co-op program so I can offer you advice on that.
    4. Dorm life is great at Temple and allows you to meet more people than you would expect. Temple recently created one of the nicest residence halls (morgan) which is a suite style living with flatscreens and tables. I'm pretty sure Drexel has new residence halls since they have been building tons of stuff over the past 7-8 years.
Food at Temple is operated by Sodexo and personally I'm not a big fan of this option. However, you meal plan works at a lot of places including restaurants in the dinning halls like Tony Lukes, Manhattan Bagel, Auntie Annes and etc.
    5. Temple costs anywhere between 13-19k (in-state and depends on your college) +approximately 10k living. Drexel on the other would definitely exceed 55k if you are living on campus.

When I applied, I also got accepted to both. When I went to visit the schools I immediately saw the difference. Temple actually has a campus, and the liveliness of the campus is very adamant. Drexel feels much less like college (in my opinion). I can't speak for their bio-medical engineering program, but I do recommend you visit both (same trip, they're really right next to each other) and meet with the department at each school as well as getting a tour.

Just curious, what did you decide and why?
