Best school for Interior Design?

Hello! I am new to this forum, currently a sophomore, soon to be junior, in high school. I've decided I want to study Interior Design, and I would really love to stay in Texas because in state tuition is so much cheaper.

Texas has a few schools with accredited ID programs, a few being UT Austin, UT Arlington, SFA, TSU, Texas Tech, Baylor, UNT, and UTSA. U of H also has a brand new ID program, which I'm pretty sure is accredited, although I'm not 100% certain.

My top choice, is obviously UT Austin. I haven't heard many good things about any of the other schools, besides one friend who went to TSU, but left, and another who went to UTSA and left. Getting into UT Austin would be interesting; I've got okay grades - a 4.36 out of 5.0 my freshman year, and when this year is over I'll probably have about a 3.8 out of 4.0 I have not taken ACT/SAT yet, obviously. But I have some time to work on my GPA and test scores, etc.

My main concern with UT is the price. My parents don't make much, and will probably not be able to help pay at all. They recently had to file for bankruptcy when my dad lost his job for about a year. With something like Interior Design, it's not like I'll be making a huge salary, so I don't want to rack up a lot of student loan debt..

The most realistic choice is UH, because I like about a 30 minute drive from downtown, so in theory I could live at home still. It's much cheaper as well, and a heck of a lot easier to get into; I'd have no problem. I've heard it has a pretty solid Architecture program, and ID and Arch are very closely related, and take many of the same classes, so I'm thinking I'd be an okay program.

But I'm wondering, what school would be the best option? Do I go all out, rack up some debt, but get a great education in a great city by going to UT Austin? Or if I don't get in, could I CAP and go to UH or UTSA or something and transfer? Or should I just complete my education at UH, and save a lot of money?

Sorry this was so long! And thank you so much for any input :)

I know that UNT had a good ID program at one point. Perhaps you could do search on either US News and World report or Forbes for the rankings of specific programs.

Try and take some college visits this summer to find out more about the schools programs as well. Especially UH since it is so close.

Good luck to you and keep working hard in school and prepare for your SAT/ACT's as there is scholarship money to be had out there!
