HELP! Looking to transfer... So WHEN is the best time to do it??

Hello, I'm currently a freshman at the University of Houston; my goal is to transfer into the UMiami School of Business as a Junior for the Fall 2012 semester. The thing that I'm really unsure of is WHEN to start the whole transfer process.

Basically when should you begin to submit the transfer app? The beginning of your sophomore year? Or after the first semester of your sophomore year?

The way I'm seeing it, if I turn in my transfer application for UM as soon as it's available during the beginning of next year, I would have a head start on the "competition" and get my admissions decisions earlier. The problem with that is I would only have two semesters (and possibly one summer term) worth of grades and credits.

But at the same time if I were to wait for my third college semester to be over before submitting a transfer app would I be at a disadvantage since that wouldn't be until January 2012? (The transfer app is due the March before the fall semester)

So which looks better to a college admissions office? An early transfer application or one that's turned in a semester later but with more grades/credits? (assume both have a rather good GPA)

Any particular reason why you want to transfer for your junior year instead of at the beginning of your sophomore year? The deadlines for Fall 2011 transfers are in early March for most schools, so you would be looking to submit you application sometime between now and then. If you wanted to transfer for the beginning of your junior year in Fall 2012, you'll have to wait a year before you submit your application. Schools change their applications every year, so you'll have to wait until the 2012 applications are available.

Well if I did that I would have less than 30 credits which would require me to send them a HS transcript along with SAT scores which I would prefer not to do. So I'm just going to do my two years where I'm already at.

And yea your right the application would most likely change so I was prepared for that. The thing I'm wondering about is whether to just hurry up and submit the transfer app for Fall 2012 as soon as its available or wait until the second semester of my sophomore year at Univ. of Houston to submit it so I have another semester of grades on my college transcript.

Basically, is it better to get in a transfer application as soon as possible or to wait to get as many credits on your transcript as possible before the UM transfer deadline? Which would help me best as candidate?
