trinity dropped 5 ranks in US News!

I just started at Trinity as a freshman and am loving it, but I was disturbed to see that it dropped 5 ranks in US News from 25 to 30. That makes no sense. Could someone explain to me why that is and if maybe it is a reason having to do with something non academic that we are not aware of? Anyhow, you should apply, because it is simply a great community with a lot of friendly and interesting people!

and why is its selectivity ranking 54? It should be around 30. It is not much less selective than schools like Bates or Oberlin. They just do not care about high standardized test scores but more about HS grades and classes and therefore neglect the #s of their applicants (i.e. SATs)

My guess is that US News justs mixes up what determines the rankings so they aren't the same each year. Who would even care if there wasn't much of a change.

could it have anything to do with the budget woes?

Guys....only reason we dropped in rankings is because of the financial situation. That is being rectified as we speak (jimmy jones and the faculty concurred that we are 80% to salvation). Our academics have not dropped, nor have athletics. If you took notice of it, Trinity is an exceedingly popular school, so popular that we have admitted too many people. Only reason we dropped is because of the budget...honestly guys, don't sweat it, we'll be right back probably by next year.

yeah.. i second Ginger.. its cuz trinity went on a bit of a financial crisis recently is why it dropped.. but it would be up again next year cuz we had by far the greatest increase in alumni givin percentage compared to anywhere else... and that is a governin factor in the rankings and that will certainly put trinity in its righteous place amongst the top 20s..

is it true that they had to temporarily bring down the selectivity in the wake of the budget woes and that they plan to rectify their exclusivity when the financial situation is completely fixed? That is what many upperclassmen have told me. Jones also addressed his plans to tighten the admissions standards for the class of 2011 in a speach given to the parents on family weekend.

Btw, Trinity overenrolled last year, making the class of '10 the biggest ever. And now with the impending housing crunch (due to the renovation of Jarvis and Seabury) next year, how likely is it that Trinity will take a fewer number of students this time around?

oh and regarding the budget woes, Trinity recently got a $39.5 million anonymous donation! Anyway, I'm pretty confident Trinity can bounce back. President Jones seems to know what he's doing!
