PHILADELPHIA - The Tufts University Men's Lacrosse team overcame a slow start to earn a 19-11 victory against Lynchburg College as the Jumbos won the NCAA championship for the second straight year and third time overall Sunday in front of 19,559 fans at Lincoln Financial Field.

Tufts (21-2) trailed 4-0 early, but rallied to take a 5-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Jumbos out-scored the Hornets 5-2 in the second quarter to lead 10-6 at halftime. A 6-2 third-quarter advantage allowed the Jumbos to pull away.

I think the real takeaway is not this or any other particular championship, but that after long being a NESCAC doormat Tufts' athletics is in the midst of a golden era, having had seven teams win NCAA championships in the past three academic years (s opposed to one in years prior). And that doesn't take the Tufts middle-distance runner who won his second NCAA individual gold over the weekend into account. That success combined with the facility upgrades, certainly make Tufts a more attractive place to the student-athlete than ever before.
