angstyangsty does your community college have UC Davis reps come to campus? Even if you don't qualify for TAG, they should be able to provide some advice. Also, from what I understand Ws are not counted against you.

I wanted to tag UCD but also couldn’t complete the math requirements on time! Are you going to take the required math course in spring?

    I’m a CCC transfer.
    Major: English
    GPA: 3.86 *
IGETC: will be completed in Spring 2019
    TAG: no
ECs: two part-time jobs, college choir, president of two clubs in high school, varsity swim in high school, weekly columnist for a digital magazine, middle school youth group counselor, member of church worship team, music camp instructor.
Schools: UCD, UCSD, UCI, UCLA, UCSB, & a handful of out-of-states. UCD is my top choice.
*I recieved a failing grade my first semester of college but retook the class and got an A. Will this affect my chances of getting in? I have all As and one B otherwise.

I was hoping someone here could help me. I’m a biological sciences major. I took the 2nd Organic Chemistry in the summer and got a D. I know that Organic Chemistry isn’t a required course for transferring with TAG. Will my TAG be denied because of the D or am I fine? My Cumulative GPA is 3.50 and will most likely go up to 3.60 after this semester at CC. I’ve finished Calc 1 and 2 with As. I’m finishing the Biology series and Physics series this semester. Lastly, I was planning on retaking Organic chemistry in hopes of getting an A. Any help?

The Ds apply only after you TAG. So you got it before.

Thanks! I was just confused because on UCD’s TAG criteria it said that Organic Chem and Physics should be taken for a C but won’t count towards your Biological Sciences Major Technical GPA.

Oh well that’s a different story. If it’s required for the major you need whatever grade the major requires. Usually at least a C minimum. Sorry, I was just thinking of the general D rule. If TAG says C for that course then you need a C. But you’re retaking, right?

Yeah in the spring I am. I’m not sure if Organic Chem even counts for a Bio Science TAG. I’ve been told it doesn’t but I’m still not sure.

I’m not sure how you’re thinking organic chemistry is a biology course.

Here is the biology major rule:
Transfer students must earn an overall transfer GPA of 2.80 or higher to be
competitive candidates for admission to this major. Candidates must complete
courses comparable to the following UC Davis courses with a GPA of at least 2.50
for each of the three course groups. It is recommended that candidates have
already achieved the minimum required GPAs for the courses in the groups below
that have been completed by the time of application and maintain them through
the transfer academic update filing period. Courses must be taken for a letter
grade, with no grade less than C. Advanced Placement (AP) or International
Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level examinations may satisfy UC Davis course
    equivalents:

    Mathematics 17A/B/C or 21A/B
    Chemistry 2A/B/C
    Biological Sciences 2A/B/C

TAG rules stipulate you must fulfill any regulations set up within the major. However, organic is not listed above. But it is listed here:

It is also strongly recommended that transfer students complete courses
comparable to the following UC Davis courses. Completion of these courses will
help you move more efficiently toward graduation. Courses should be taken for a
letter grade, with no grade less than C:

    Organic Chemistry 8A/B* or 118A/B/C
Physics 7A/B/C or the physics series cited on ASSIST
for your intended College of Biological Sciences major (especially
useful for Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior majors).

Keep in mind these are MAJOR rules, not TAG rules. If you retake the course it should be ok. If you leave as-is, I suspect the TAG will be voided because the major will not want you with a D in organic.

Understood. I just don’t want to be rejected when I get my TAG decision. This is my preferred school.

If you have it noted as a retake, the provisional contract should say something about the grade needed for the class.

If I retake O chem at a different CC, how am I suppose to indicate that on my TAP? Or is that not allowed and I have to finish the series at the same CC?

You can take it at another CCC. The app should recognize o-chem. However, you can also note in academic additional comments that it’s a repeat. If the app doesn’t show it as a repeat, they’ll deal with it manually.
