@queen_ofthenorth Have you visited both SB and Davis? I visited both and liked SB's campus quite a bit better. However, Davis receives a lot more research funding - good if you want to spend some time in research.

I feel that if I ended up off the SD waitlist, I'd drop either of these schools to SIR at SD. SD is prestigious, full of opportunities, beautiful, though harder to earn the GPA...

@kristinpete I've only been to SB, so I'm going to check out Davis soon. I thought Santa Barbra was beautiful but I didn't like how crammed IV felt. I'm also really hesitant about the party culture being too much for me; I know I can just choose not to party, but I'm concerned about not being able to connect with people because I'm uninterested in that lifestyle.

I'm not sure if I will chose SD if I get off the waitlist. I really like the idea of living in San Diego. (I'm from the Bay Area). Cons are that I've heard SD can feel isolated and people are stand-offish. I am also concerned with earning a competitive gpa for grad school at SD.

@queen_ofthenorth I'm feeling pressured to SIR somewhere but am wondering if I should just wait until mid May...

@kristinpete Personally I'm going to take my sweet asss time to SIR. Definitely waiting til the end of May. If you hear back from SD in May (which is possible) and decide to go there, then you won't lose a deposit on another school if you haven't SIRed by that point. Do your research and don't feel rushed. This is a huge decision!

@Spiceboys100 major prep is crucially important. UCSD is more forgiving, but it’s always the # 1 consideration.

    Hey yalll

    Major: CS/CSE
    GPA: 3.8
    Reqs+IGETC: Completed
    from CC

I'm scared because I got in through wait list last year same major and gpa and all, but got into some troubles and couldn't go to any university Fall 2018. I feel like UCSD will not like that I let go on the opportunity last year, and negatively impact my wait-list position. Also because of those troubles I had to drop all of my Fall 2018 classes (though I'm taking good classes this semester.) so bc of all of this I feel like I'm gonna be at the bottooommmm of the waitlist this year lol

    good luck guys <3

I know last year like a crap ton of people got in for CS so here's to hoping it's the same this year

@hodol2006 You were admitted off the waitlist?

This thread is for Fall 2019 TRANSFER applicants who were waitlisted.

Wow, I wish I had applied to UCLA (even if my chances weren't great). It almost seems UCSD and UCLA were more selective than UCLA this year...Several people that made it into UCLA and UCB were waitlisted or rejected at UCI and UCSD...

    @kristinpete

perhaps yield protection because they had such high stats and chance of getting into UCLA or UCB or higher ranked schools than UCSD/UCI

Could be random, but it seems as though you'll see that trend quite often (rejection at UCR but acceptance into UCLA /UCB or something similar).

@tacoturnup It doesn't appear to be yield protection to me...Not at UCSD at least.... UCSD has taken mostly high GPA students with ECs.

For UCR and UCSC, yes, highly qualified students have been rejected and it's obviously for yield rate...

@kristinpete Well, if it makes you feel better..I applied to (and was rejected) at both UCB and UCLA but waitlisted at UCSB and UCSD, accepted at UCR..but who knows how they do these decisions. Sometimes the results are unexpected :0

@tacoturnup Haha no, it doesn't make me feel better - I wish you and I could have just gotten into all of them! lol. I did see one or two people get into UCB with a 3.3 GPA, so there was always the rare chance..Oh well..

At least we were waitlisted and not flat out rejected..Feels like they're giving us a chance.

I’m having the worst week not gonna lie. So long story short, my grandfather passed away on Monday, had food poisoning on Wednesday and found out Saturday that I got waitlisted. Here’s the kicker, I got accepted to UCSD last year off the waitlist, but was waiting to hear back about an appeal from SDSU, so I didn’t pay my $250 deposit and lost my chance of going and SDSU denied my appeal after taking my $400 deposit since I didn’t pass ECON and they wouldn’t let me take it there. I re-applied to UCSD this year for COMM per the advice of one of the admissions people through email, and wrote on my application in the comment section that I had gotten in but didn’t complete the transfer process.

To be waitlisted again and have to go through the whole waiting process again is killing me. I didn’t apply to any other schools because I really wanted UCSD. I’m hoping there’s a chance I’ll get off the waitlist like last year but I’m just not sure.

@btchykryssy I'm sorry to hear about all that :( My advice would be to wait patiently until waitlist results come out. Looking at threads from years past, it seems like we all have a fair chance of getting in. If you're denied admission, then I'd write an appeal ASAP telling them what's going on. Address all of the substandard grades you've had and write how you'll be a great candidate for UCSD in the years to come, and thank them above all for their consideration

    Hi Guys!
So, I thought that I had UCSD in the bag, but apparently not. :(
    Major: Political Science
    Alt Major: History
    CCC: San Diego Mesa College
GPA: Unknown ( only because I attended college in Oregon when I was younger. I don't know if those classes will be transferable).
    Major GPA: 3.75
Essays: 9/10 ( at least I thought)(Wrote about how my anxiety in my earlier college years and how I have overcome it.)
EC: none, I worked full time. (which is what I think really hurt me)
Last year 379 students were admitted for Political Science and only 90 enrolled, so I am hoping that I can get in.
Good Luck everyone! I hope that we can all get off of the waitlist.
