Hey everyone,
I have a 2.53 cummulative gpa and I am DESPERATE to transfer out to a UC or CSU college. I am taking a full load during spring 2010 to try and boost up my gpa. Does anyone know anyone who has transferred out with that gpa? What are my chances at a UC or CSU, even with a good essay? Please please someone give me hope haha. :)

UCR, UCM, possibly UCSC, not too sure about CSU's. Bump it up to 3.0 and TAG into UCSD or UCI etc. whats your major, thats important and how many units do you have

Great at most CSUs. I wouldn't worry to much, CSU's are not that difficult to get into. However, it will be tough to get into most UCs. Also, if you are transferring for next Fall, your grades in Spring 2010 will not even be seen by the UCs for admission purposes.

I was a psychology major, but i switched to human development because psychology is super impacted, i currently have 53 transferrable units completed as well & IGETC for UC completed and one more requirement for CSU for IGETC. I appreciate your answers! Hmm, what do you think my chances are for UCSD or UCI? and do you guys know people who have transferred to CSU's or UC's with my gpa?

why is your GPA so low at a CC? i hope you realize how much more difficult the upper division classes at UCSD and such will be.

i would say negative with uci and ucsd, there are just too many applicants and we are in such a bad economic time. Thats why your best bet would be to do TAG (search if you dont know) if you can overload on easy courses and bump up your gpa to a 3.0. otherwise you shouldnt hold your breath..

It's called life Little_Duck. Things happen. But what I do know and have realized is the level of difficulty ANY university could be & im more than prepared to tackle it, just so long as there's hope. What i'm focusing on is getting a higher education and changing my life around, just like anyone else who has been in my situation before.

Thank you Samsizzle, I appreciate your advice. & you're right, it's such a bad economic time right now, just seeing if there's any hope because I've worked so hard for the past 2 years, got a 3.0+ gpa last spring and really messed up during summer so it changed my life around with a quickness.

If I remember, lots of people were rejected from UCSD last year with 3.0+ GPAs. If you have a significant upward trend, then you might have a shot; otherwise, as someone else said, don't hold your breath. :(

Just take the easycourses that transfer to UC and bump your UC GPA to 3.0 and then you'll be able to be IGETC and TAG,,,which is guaranteed admittance to UCSD...definitely possible

I appreciate your advices! & grey_syntactics, Isn't UCSD suppose to accept those who have TAG? Those are the people with 3.0 and above correct?
  • samsizzlesamsizzle Registered User Posts: 338 Member
^^ correct, thats how I got in for winter 2010, TAG all the way!! 3.0 is a must

hey OP i'm in a similar situation as you, i'm trying taking 17 units and have to ace all of them to bump my gpa up to a 3.00 so that I can sign up for TAG to UCSD. if you do it, I wish you luck.

btw, does anyone know how strict the UC's are on having a 3.00GPA to sign up for TAG? What happens if I get like, a ~2.9 GPA. Will I be disqualified, or will they show some leniency?

    They want the 3.0 minimum.

u need to repeat your calculus, it'll change your GPA a great deal because it's 4-5 units. You also need to take about 15 units worth of A's in order to raise your gpa to a 3.0.. you're lucky that you only have about 50 units any more than that and it'll be a lot harder to bump your gpa up. Remember you can transfer about 70 units so you still have a chance. UCLA and CAL are not very realistic, UCSD is only realistic if you're at a 3.0 probably. Everything else is very much possible. I pulled my grades from a 1.8 to a 3.3. You can do it, it all depends on what kind of person you are ;)
