sadly, there is no good answer to your question. So far there are reports of 2 chem students with offers. It’s early days yet, English hasn’t historically been one of the early responders, and we don’t know how strong your student’s app is. Really, best to step away for a couple of weeks.

Are you tax resident in the UK? (that is, what fee status?).

Same same, @fifi317 -- daughter applied for English and anxiously waiting to hear. I do remember when my older daughter applied for a different program four years ago (i think for Economics and History?) we didn't hear back until just about Thanksgiving, either right before or right after. Good luck to you all!

I applied to a joint degree in Biology and Sustainable Development. I live in the US and all my materials were in by October 15th but I still haven't heard back

My son applied for Social Anthropology on Monday Nov 18 via the common app and also sent the ACT scores the same day. How do you know when all your materials are in? Do they send you a note saying that?

Last year when he applied my son got an email about a week later that walked him through setting up his application portal, and the status of all the materials showed there. Have your son check his spam folders and email filters.

If you want to get an idea of the St. Andrews fancy party scene, follow Lightbox St. Andrews on Facebook. They just posted their Christmas Ball pictures and I'm soooooo jealous.

@ninakaterina Good to see that the vast majority of guys are still wearing dinner jackets and bow ties. It has always surprised me how rare that is in the US, even for prom and similarly formal events. Black tie is often specified for formal dinners in the UK (we had to wear black tie for our college reunion, which made for an amusing struggle to get into my outfit after so many years), and hand-tied bow ties get much more respect than pre-tied ones. Oxford even requires formal dress when taking exams.

For prospective male students worrying about the need for an expensive wardrobe, note that it is much cheaper to buy in the UK than in the US and usually better to buy than rent if you are going to be going to balls and formal dinners most terms (M&S is typically the default place to buy a dinner jacket).

My daughter wore her senior prom dress for the third time for the Christmas Ball on Sunday. Many guys wear kilts.

Hall formal dinners are usually in robes.
