Instructions begin day vs Spring semester begins day?

what is the difference between these two days? Do you have to be in school until the instructions begin or the spring semester begins? upperclassmen, anyone, help!

    Come when instruction begins. I think the start of the semester is meant for welcome week (at least for Fall semester, don't know about Spring).

    Hey it's a valid question. I was wondering what the hell the difference was this year, since I have a conflict where I can't move in until the 27th. The whole point of this forum is for people to ask questions about Berkeley.

    the first day of the semester i think is when the dorms open again. first day of instruction is self explanitory (sp?).
