Subject to academic disqualification?

My son, who is a freshman, got "Subject to academic disqualification" on two of his subjects with F during winter quarter. Other two had a B and a C.

How does the process goes from here? Would he be put on probation automatically?

Call his college's deans office, they'll be able to help you and hopefully explain. However if you're not getting a good explanation from them (some of the people working there are incompetent) ask for someone else or that person's supervisor.
